AMD Unveils Radeon R7 Series Gaming SSDs - tech
(hx) 09:17 AM CEST - Aug,06 2014 - Post a comment / read (5)
According to this post at WCCF Tech, AMD is set to announce new Radeon R7 Series SSDs later this month. The blurry screenshots shows 120GB, 240GB and 480GB drives made by OCZ.
AMD is expanding its product offerings in a very imaginative way, something that is a very healthy habit for companies to adopt. It has just recently unveiled its Solid State Drive (SSD) lineup labelled Radeon SSDs. The lineup revealed so far consists of 3 SSDs of the Radeon R7 SSD Family and consists of 120 GB, 240GB and 480GB respectively. As usual our Chinese friends over at EXPReview.com came through with details about the lineup

t would appear that AMD has plans to become an all-in-one company for the needs of PC Gamers. They are already supplying CPUs, GPUs, APUs, RAM and now they will be churning out SSDs too. I have a feeling that in a few years we are going to be looking at PC builds consisting entirely of AMD parts. Now as you may have noticed, these SSDs are coming in three variants. The maximum capacity of these SSDs is almost half a Terabyte while the minimum is 120 GB. Which makes sense, because anything less than 120GB is really not feasible for installing an operating system on. Less than 120 GB SSDs can be used as scratch disks for professional programs but that isn’t really AMD’s target audience

WTF is a Gaming SSD?

Tom(04:21 PM CEST - Aug,06 2014 )
Just SSD drives and marketing BS.. 120GB too small for OS? Total hogwash. I have 90GB with 20GB remaining. If you aren't an idiot and install apps all over C:, then you don't need more than 90GB. I put all non-essential stuff on D drive. I'm not about to go buying SSD's to install games. I'm not that impatient. And I thought OCZ went out of business or filed for bankruptcy. Guess they got bought out. Either way, just another venue for AMD to rip off n00b gamers.

I have a 64GB SSD for the OS (and all the crap I need except the games) and I have 17GB free.

Yep, it's just BS marketing

A so called 'Gaming SSD' would need to be at least 1TB.
