AMD surprise launched the Ryzen 5 5600X3D exclusively with the retailer Microcenter. This is AM4's last big upgrade, coming in at $230 for a CPU that competes even with AMD's own R7 5800X3D. These benchmarks include tests for the 5600X3D vs. the i5-13600K, R7 5800X3D, R7 5700X, R5 5600X, and more. We look at the best gaming CPUs in 2023 compared against AMD's newest CPU, and the 5600X3D lands as one of the best budget gaming options right now. It's a fiercely competitive market, and AM4 being on cheaper motherboards with cheaper RAM makes a big difference in total system cost. We're reviewing this more as a drop-in upgrade rather than from the perspective of a total new build (although consider both in the conclusion) as a result of the unique nature of this launch. The AMD R5 5600X3D's release date is July 7, 2023.

well, I meant it as a comparison between the 5600X3D and 5800X3D. With an i7 9700, neither of those CPUs upgrades really make much sense ...

well, I meant it as a comparison between the 5600X3D and 5800X3D. With an i7 9700, neither of those CPUs upgrades really make much sense ...

In that case, you'd get more consistent performance out 5600X3D since 3D cache is always in use over all available cores. Then again, I am talking exclusively about performance in games. If computer is needed for render and production, both X3D options are terrible and a waste of money.

Some time ago, I built a setup around the Ryzen 7 5800X3D — and honestly, it was a fantastic processor. Even now, it still holds up really well for gaming, especially if you’re staying on the AM4 platform and don’t want to upgrade everything. Paired with an RTX 3070, it handled everything I threw at it: Elden Ring, Cyberpunk 2077, Hogwarts Legacy — all on ultra settings with smooth performance. CS:GO and Valorant ran well over 300 FPS, so there was really nothing to complain about in terms of gaming.

Eventually, though, I ran into hardware trouble. A few months after the warranty expired, my motherboard died — one of the VRMs overheated and failed. Could’ve been a faulty board or just bad airflow, but after that, I found it difficult to justify rebuilding the system around AM4 again.

Since then, I’ve been using a laptop with a Ryzen 7 6800HS and integrated Radeon 680M graphics. And honestly, for what I do these days, it's been more than enough. Most of the time I’m playing online games where stable internet matters more than raw graphics performance. I’ve also had less time for AAA titles, so I ended up appreciating the portability and simplicity of a good laptop more than I expected.
