AMD bundles Far Cry with Athlon 64 systems - tech

AMD has announced an interesting promotion that will bundle Ubisoft's Far Cry with Athlon 64 FX and Athlon 64-based systems from a number of vendors through June 2004 or while supplies last. Here is a bit from the PR:

Meticulously designed, Far Cry pushes the 32-bit threshold of game action with highly developed physics, destructible terrain, dynamic lighting, motion-captured animation, proprietary Polybump technology and total surround sound. These technical advancements result in cinematic-quality gaming, where players are immersed in the action and experience.

Based on AMD64 technology, the AMD Athlon 64 FX and AMD Athlon 64 processors are designed to offer outstanding 32-bit performance today with the capability to move into the 64-bit future. Like all AMD64 processors, these processors also have the added security benefit of Enhanced Virus Protection technology. This technology, enabled by the upcoming Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 2, can prevent the execution of certain types of malicious viruses.

But it's not a 64-bit port of Far Cry, so who really cares? it's just another game bundle.

game pushes 32bit threshold. Farcry is the worst/bloated game I have ever played. God could only imagine how much pointless code is in this game. This game shouldn't lag nearly anything.. Painkiller is freekn smooth, Farcry is a pig. It's need a AMD 64 just to make it run properly.

Tell me where Painkiller was in the charts? It sold that many it went right over the top of No1 spot? Nope, it bombed!! Hey Tom quit crying, never heard of this remarkable menu in nearly **EVERY** PC game made; it's called ****OPTIONS***** you know these things that turn detail up/down etc? Of course not you couldn't see it because your damn tears where streaming down your eyes!!! I'll tell you something, the MOANERS that cry about games like Far Cry are the ones with CRAP systems! Always the same. Ever thought why the Sims are number one constantly? Because it will run on a 486DX! Painkiller is repetitive with ZERO replayability....at least Far Cry has it's own editor and story LOL -did i say it had an EDITOR?? Oh, and mods being made for it. When DOOM3 ships the gameplay could be fantastic but the forums will still be full of fools complaining that it needs a Radeon 9800, AMD64, Intel 3+GHz Ditto here.
