| Tuplay.com has posted an interview with with Laird Malamed, the executive producer at Activision for shooter and online titles. Well Laird has headed up such excellent projects Return to Castle Wolfenstein as the two most recent Zork games (Grand Inquisitor and Nemesis), and is currently at work on the much-awaited sequel to Wolfenstein 3D, Return to Castle Wolfenstein, as well as some others.
tuplay: What's your current position at Activision, and what projects are you involved in?
Laird: I am Executive Producer in our PC group. I am currently working on Return to Castle Wolfenstein, Commander Keen Color GameBoy, Elite Force Expansion Pack and 5 other things that aren't announced yet.
tuplay: What games have you played recently?
Laird: I've been playing a lot of No One Lives Forever. I picked up Traitor's Gate but haven't gotten into it yet. Before that I played Escape from Monkey Island all the way through.
tuplay: Do you think Infocom and Activision had any idea that Return to Zork would be such a cult classic?
Laird: Probably not! The big thing for RTZ was its timing with the CD-ROM explosion. Also, when RTZ came out, computer gaming was still dominated by those of us who had grown up on Infocom. Now, it's a lot more mainstream. [more] |
