Doom II Gets Rebuilt Inside Doom 3 Engine - mod&map

A long-running fan project called Doom II for Doom 3 has released an updated demo that rebuilds classic Doom II maps inside id Software’s 2004 engine. The mod keeps the original level layouts and music while adding Doom 3’s darker lighting, dynamic shadows, and modern 3D presentation. Version 0.29 is still a work-in-progress demo with only the first few maps fully playable. The project has been in development since around 2010 and recently resurfaced around QuakeCon 2026. The Disposable Heroes mod team, has been working hard to bring back the original feel of Doom ][, so far the 10 maps have been re-created, by hand, and even monster the monster layout's have been preserved (or enhanced) for all 4 skill levels:

As well as bringing back classic features, such as level story intros, end of level stats, the use key, and soon an auto-map and even co-op play.
