Samsung, SK Hynix, and Micron have kicked off early development of DDR6 memory, requesting substrate partners to begin work on prototypes even before JEDEC finalizes the standard. The next-gen RAM is slated for commercialization in 2028-2029, starting at base speeds around 8,800 MT/s and scaling up to 17,600 MT/s for dramatically higher bandwidth than DDR5. Early test samples are already being evaluated by major processor companies to prepare for AI datacenter demands.
