Microsoft has rolled out a redesigned Copilot app for Windows 11 that includes a complete private installation of Microsoft Edge (version 146.0.3856.97), complete with Chromium engine files, WebView2 runtime, and supporting binaries. This web-based approach replaces the earlier native WinUI version, delivering a smoother experience via the Microsoft Store but at the cost of higher resource usage. Testing shows the app consuming up to 1GB of RAM during active use and around 500MB when idle, far more than the previous lightweight version. The shift highlights Microsoft's pivot toward web technologies for its AI features rather than fully native development. Users can still uninstall the app if preferred.
