Chuwi Caught in Major CPU Scam: Selling Old Ryzen Chips Disguised as New - tech

Chinese electronics brand Chuwi has been accused of misleading customers by advertising its CoreBook X and CoreBook Plus laptops with the newer AMD Ryzen 5 7430U processor, while shipping units equipped with the older Ryzen 5 5500U chip.

Independent tests by NotebookCheck revealed that firmware modifications caused the BIOS, Windows, and diagnostic tools to falsely report the superior 7430U model, with the discrepancy only detectable after physical disassembly. Performance fell short of advertised specs by up to 10-20%, due to differences in architecture, clock speeds, and cache size between the Zen 2-based 5500U and the Zen 3-based 7430U. Chuwi initially claimed the issue stemmed from leftover production stock but responded to the exposé by threatening legal action against the reporting outlet. The scandal has sparked widespread consumer distrust toward the budget manufacturer's transparency and product claims.
