China's YMTC Unveils PC550: First Commercial PCIe 5.0 Client SSD Amid Global NAND Shortage - tech

Chinese storage giant Yangtze Memory Technologies Corp (YMTC) has launched the PC550, its first commercial PCIe 5.0 NVMe SSD for the client market. Powered by advanced Xtacking 4.0 3D NAND, the drive delivers sequential read speeds of up to 10,500 MB/s and writes up to 10,000 MB/s on the top 2TB model. Available in 512GB, 1TB, and 2TB capacities with M.2 2242 and 2280 form factors, it targets AI PCs and commercial systems using a power-efficient four-channel design. The release comes as a worsening global NAND shortage drives up prices and strains supply chains. While not the absolute fastest PCIe 5.0 option, the PC550 offers strong performance and positions YMTC as a key player challenging Western dominance in high-speed storage.
