Gearbox CEO Says Borderlands 4's "Real Fans" Will Find a Way to Pay $80 - briefly

Borderlands 4 is the latest game caught up in the industry-wide price hike discussion, even though Gearbox and Take-Two haven't announced its price yet. But that didn't stop Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford for making some comments that the gaming public didn't exactly appreciate. Although he didn't confirm or deny an $80 pricetag, Pitchford said on social media that real fans would find a way to "make it happen" if they wanted to buy the game. Yikes. In other news, Stellar Blade 2 is officially a go, with a tentative release window of 2027. And finally, in entertainment news, Predator fans think one of the hunters in the upcoming animated film, Predator: Killer of Killers, is wearing a cape made of—wait for it—xenomorph tails. If true, that's pretty badass. And there's an even more direct crossover between the Alien and Predator franchises coming later this summer, in the live-action film Predator: Badlands.

I'll certainly find a way to pirate the game with no guilt whatsoever if they charge 80 bucks for it. I may pirate it twice.

I am real fan and I can't find a way to pay 20 dollars where I live.
I am happy to pay 20 dollars for unlimited internet, TV and pirate the shit out of anything I get my hands on.
80 dollars seems like extortion - this is a video game, not some productivity suite.
I'll pick up a legal copy a few years later, once it drops to 10dollars including all DLCs.
Good luck with your sales though!
If I were the CEO, I'd find ways for alternative funding and put less on the users so more people could buy it and less would need to pirate it. But, that's just me, I am not a CEO.

Welcome to the real world of consumerism.
If you look at older games on Steam, they have all magically grown extra arms and legs and the price incorporates that. All the STALKER games are now nearly £17 each, because there’s a new generation to exploit and the crap Enhanced versions to milk the tits off them.
Gaming has been dying for the past 5 years, I’ve repeated it enough.
Wages tripled, developers were sacked and are few and far between and everything else that. Salaries won’t go down as it’s lucrative.
Amerzone, as I said previously, sacked their entire 30 Microids paris team after chucking it out the door for £35.- 5hrs play.
I’m not buying anything that’s a remake/master that i consider poor value and I’ve played decades before.

Anyway, this generation know the value of nothing but the price of everything.
Why else do you think HW is going up not down in price, because I’m over 30 years older than this lot has never known what value in a box,full game,keycard, 600 page manual and other goodies. Owning an *actual* product in their hands.
Go in their houses. No wallpaper, white walls, no pictures, no TV -stream everything on a laptop. Don’t own a car, mobile it’s all leases.
Don’t own games. That’s you answer and problem.
Yes they WILL buy a game (license that they don’t even know) at $80 and that’s all that matters isn’t it
