Cyberpunk 2077 Update 2.0 can use up to 90% of 8-core CPUs, may overheat PC systems - briefly

Cyberpunk 2077’s Update 2.0 will release later this month. And, according to Filip Pierscinski, CDPR’s lead scene programmer, it will stress heavily both CPUs and GPUs. Pierscinski claimed that this new version of CP2077 can use up to 90% of modern-day eight-core CPUs. As such, he suggested PC gamers to check their systems for stability and overheating issues.

Before release CP2077 2.0 and PL please check conditions of your cooling systems in PC. We use all what you have, so workload on CPU 90% on 8 core is expected. To save your time please run Cinebench or similar and check stability of your systems ?https://t.co/TWOAkP0ONu

How can it overheat a system that is properly cooled? 3DMark Fire strike would maybe overheat the system with shit cooling. Besides, if no security has been turned off, you just can't overheat the system, the system manages temperatures by dropping clocks and voltages (reducing performance).
Consoles should do the same, but I am no expert there, so I don't know.

PS. As for the CPU, mine is under a 360AIO (CPU will use ~240W at peak), cinebench pushes it to <78C, Prime95 with small fft's <83. Sure, Cyberpunk is going to do worse?! I think not. And this is Intel, AMD runs cooler.

Just go to steam and look at AMD and Unity games ;) If Titanic’s bulkhead doors were AMD made, it would never have sunk due to them closing down in a mere few seconds! :lol:

Remember, not all systems will throttle down, neither will they cool efficiently. People don’t even know how to build systems! So yeah, shutdowns and crashes are inevitable. Of course people will blame games etc. when it’s the cats fault!

Heat up more than usual, sure. Overheating? No. There are safety "levers" embedded into the system at it's core. Games can't override those. For GPU - at certain temperature hadware protection kicks in, lowers clock. This is hardcoded in BIOS of the GPU. For CPU, same thing. If someone had a burnt peace of hardware - it was faulty anyways and it would fail somewhere else.

I know, but we’re talking Joe blogs here.
Generic motherboards, poor thermal paste, generic RAM, bad PSUs.
People today think they built a system because they stuck an RTX in it.
Push a system that poorly built and it will shut down!
We’re not going into the ins and outs of how mobos have thermal management and GPUs either have good cooling or bad cooling. If the case is crap then you’re on a loser from day dot. Same for the hardware.

All I’m saying is watch this space. ;)

Their systems are shutting down because either extra bad cooling, or super crappy PSU if everything else is at least 99% functional within spec.
Weak motherboard will just give worse performance due to inability to provide X or Y. It will not overheat if not faulty. VRMs also throttle, they can't avoid it, it's in their nature. But that would require really bad mobo inside a super bad case, even then, reaching over 95C on VRM is not easy for puny CPUs. And while I can see someone using AB320 mobo to cram in a 3800X I still doubt that vrm will overheat and cause a shutdown.

GPU will just lower the clocks until they reach under, for nVidia, 86C, don't know the AMD targets.

But shutting down will be most likely due to PSU. Everything else would more likely cause a freeze, blue screen or reboot.
