Intel 10-Core Skylake-X Core i9 7900X: 4GHz - tech

Details gleaned from SiSoftware Sandra suggest that the 10-core Skylake-X will run at significantly higher speeds (4GHz base, 4.5 GHz Turbo Boost) than what was theorized by previous reports (3.30GHz base, 4.30GHz Turbo Boost). Other specs include 14,080KB (13.75 MB) of shared L3 cache, 1MB L2 cache per core (for a total of 10MB), as well as a 175W TDP. Word is: "While initial reports pegged this CPU at as running at clock speeds of 3.30 GHz base and with 4.30 GHz Turbo Boost, it would seem Intel's release silicon will leverage much higher stock speeds, with the reported values on this SiSoft report being a staggering 4.0 GHz base, and 4.5 GHz Turbo Boost. These are extremely high clock speeds for a ten-core part, but all the other details about the Core i9 7900X check out: there are 14,080 KB (13.75 MB) of shared L3 cache, 1 MB L2 cache per core (for a total of 10 MB), as well as a 175 W TDP."

Those numbers would have been staggering 5 years ago. (you could get 5Ghz on nitrogen cooling already)
So don't be fooled: they are lagging far behind expectations.

This is a new part with 10 cores we are talking about here. 20 threads. As for lagging, well, I don't think Intel cares. If not for Ryzen, they would still be fine with what they had so far. This new part is just a vanity product, for them to top charts, nothing less, nothing more.

As for speed, there already was an i7 Haswell that came at @4GHz stock clock...

same here. Pick any intel 4 core or better from past 4 years, clock it up to 4.2GHz or more and you are fine. Sure Ryzen is faster, Skylake is faster, but costs 2x for 20% faster. Thanks but no thanks. I feel that adding better GPU would benefit me more.

Even at that I have a 1980x1080 screen with no interest in 4K or nVSync and my 970 is doing great. I played Dishonored 2 and Deus Ex without a single problem while others with better complained. My son who is busy with SIM and FPS games has not complained a bit. They make it an easy decision with constantly inflated high prices.
