Modder improves Watch_Dogs graphical effects - mod&map
(hx) 04:43 PM EDT - Jun,16 2014 - Post a comment / read (5)
A modder has figured out how to improve the graphical effects of Watch_Dogs on the PC version.
Has made massive discoveries/improvements. He has discovered that almost all of the shaders and improvements seen in 2012 and 2013 are still in the game files, such as the e3 2012 explosions. For now he has managed to implement dynamic shadows from headlights, the increased rain density, increased NPC density, as well as 2012 e3 bloom and lens flare. When he manages to unpack certain files, he will be able to activate everything, such as POMs, etc.

-Changes to the default fog values
-Enabled bokeh DOF for the main cameras
-Stuttering Improvements
-E3 2012 Bloom
-Performance Improvements
-Enabled Headlight Shadows
-LoD Changes
-Reflection changes
-Added 3 new cameras to the game(closer, normal, further)
-Rain changes(High quality rain drops, properly reacting to light, etc)
-LensFlares(WIP)
-Lighting changes(TESTING AND WIP)
-Civilians density changes

And many more things.. SOON.
Update: TheWorse has just released the latest version of his mod. According to the changelog, this version reduces stuttering, brings various lighting improvements, completely fixes headlight shadows, and changes the rain system (do note that now rain is reacting to light properly).
Changes:

-Dof values have been corrected for this version for a better gameplay experience (I hope you like it the way is now)
-E3 2012 bloom tuned (I hope you like it now)
-Headlight shadows now have been fixed
-Changes to the rain system(density, ammount, quality, fluid settings, etc)
-Now Rain is reacting to light properly
-3 aiden principal cameras to choose(Closer, normal and far)
-Changes to the lighting system(SSAO Quality, wind settings, etc)
-Civilian settings changed from default to allow a more dense street.
-Stuttering should be improved but not fully fixed (Thats ubisoft part ^^)
-Many more changes that you will see.

There are no new textures. All the changes are made via XML file changes... Here's another one:

There were a lot of comments on release about how certain graphical aspects of the game looked much poorer than the 2012 E3 demo and this pretty much proves it. Ubi downgraded it to help console performance and left the PC port downgraded when it didn't need to be.

Several things in the official player .xml are also set to "console" and not "pc". Basically somebody couldn't be bothered to spend a few minutes properly configuring the PC profile. Typical PC porting.

Exactly why I don't care about the game, just another console port. If GTA is another console port then I'll skip on it too. I'm done with this console port to PC shit.

The dev team is completely dedicated to getting the most out of each platform, so the notion that we would actively downgrade quality is contrary to everything weve set out to achieve. We test and optimize our games for each platform on which theyre released, striving for the best possible quality. The PC version does indeed contain some old, unused render settings that were deactivated for a variety of reasons, including possible impacts on visual fidelity, stability, performance and overall gameplay quality. Modders are usually creative and passionate players, and while we appreciate their enthusiasm, the mod in question (which uses those old settings) subjectively enhances the games visual fidelity in certain situations but also can have various negative impacts. Those could range from performance issues, to difficulty in reading the environment in order to appreciate the gameplay, to potentially making the game less enjoyable or even unstable.
