  • AMD Dual Graphics Analysis: Better Benchmarks; Same Experience? - AMD's Dual Graphics technology gives APU owners the ability to add a discrete GPU to their platforms for better performance. THG take a close look at the results, both in terms of frames-per-second and experiential smoothness, thanks to captured vide
  • Fast And Cheap? Five Sub-$160 Z87 Motherboards For Enthusiasts - Intel might charge a premium for the privilege of owning an overclockable processor, but the company at least deserves credit for exposing enthusiast-class features on mainstream motherboards. With the introduction of its Z87 Express Platform Controller Hub, you get SATA 6Gb/s transfer rates on all six ports, a full battery of six USB 3.0 ports without a bunch of motherboard-down controllers, and an integrated PCI Express controller that supports three links without the need for expensive switches.
  • Acer R7 Review: Something Different - The R7 comes with 4GB of memory soldered onto the motherboard and a single SO-DIMM slot. There's only one model of R7 currently available now, at least in the US (and this is not likely to change for this generation), and Acer populates the SO-DIMM slot with a 2GB DIMM. Storage duties are handled by a 500GB hard drive with a 24GB solid state drive as a caching drive; unfortunately, Acer uses Condusiv's ExpressCache as opposed to Intel's Rapid Storage Technology, so in my experience the boost from the SSD cache isn't as noticeable. Still, it's better than relying purely on HDD storage. Considering the size of the R7, the lack of an optical drive and somewhat small battery are also going to raise a few question marks.
  • Google Chromecast Review - Legit Reviews has taken the Google Chromecast out for a spin and, from the look of things, they really liked it.
  • Windows 8.1 On Its Way, Will Arrive October 18th - Not a big fan of Windows 8 in its current form? Or simply looking forward to additional features that are expected with Windows 8.1? Well you'll be happy to know that the date for Windows 8.1 has now been set to October 18th. For those that already have Windows 8, the update will be available as a free upgrade, which can be snagged via the Windows Store. As for finding Windows 8.1 in-store as an upgrade or pre-installed, no exact date - though you can expect sometime shortly after the 18th. What can we expect with Windows 8.1? An improved lockscreen, the return on the start button (but not the classic bar), enhanced apps, a new version of IE and so much more.
  • Windows 8.1 build 9471 x64 has leaked  - Windows 8.1 build 9471 has leaked which is the first leak in several months for the Windows 8.1 platform. This build, unlike some of the previous builds, is for the x64 architecture. This is the first leak in what has been several dry months for Windows beta enthusiasts but if you are not wanting to risk it by downloading a leaked copy, Windows 8.1 should hit RTM in the next few weeks. Windows 8.1 will bring quite a few new features to the table including the return of the Start button, enhancements to the Modern interface, and a bunch more. Steve Ballmer has referred to Windows 8.1 as a refined blend when making the comparisons of Windows 8.1 to coffee.
  • Windows 8.1 to Ship with Skype Pre-Installed - When Windows 8.1 ships out in October it will come bundled with Skype already pre-installed.
  • Pirate Bay's Anti-Censorship Browser Clocks 100,000 Downloads - Within three days of its launch The Pirate Bay's PirateBrowser, which allows people to bypass ISP filtering and access blocked websites, has already been downloaded more than 100,000 times. The Pirate Bay team say they never expected the browser to catch on this quickly, while noting that they are determined to provide more anti-censorship tools.
  • HTC One for $30, Plus Bonus $50 GC and Dr. Dre Earphones - The HTC One Android smartphone with Sprint is being offered by the good people at Dell for just $29.99. You'll naturally have to sign up for a new Sprint account and a new two-year service agreement to qualify for this, but considering that an HTC One can cost as much as $899.99 outright, this is a pretty killer deal. As a refresher, the HTC One comes equipped with a 4.7-inch 1080p display (469ppi), a quad-core 1.7GHz Krait processor, Adreno 320 graphics, the 4 “Ultrapixel” camera on the back, a 2.1MP camera on the front, Beats Audio sound enhancement, and your usual array of wireless radios. Those front-facing stereo speakers are pimping too. Getting the HTC One for 30 bucks sounds pretty good, but Dell is sweetening the deal even further by throwing in a $50 Dell promo eGift Card, plus bonus urBeats Earphones by Dr. Dre (valued at $99.00). They're also waiving the $36 activation fee and tossing in free standard shipping via FedEx.
  • ZTE to Sell Firefox Phone on eBay for $80 - ZTE has announced that it will offers its Open Firefox OS phone to U.S. consumers via its official eBay store. The phone, which is based on open web standards, will be sold unlocked for $79.99. The ZTE open offers most of the same features found on today's smartphones, including integration with social networks, GPS and navigation through Nokia' HERE maps, and an app store from which to download applications. According to ZTE, the Firefox Marketplace already has a handful of apps from eBay, Kayak, The Weather Channel, SoundCloud, AOL, Wikipedia, and others.
  • Touch Screen For Any Surface Now For Sale - You can finally buy the software (video) that allows you to turn any surface into a touch screen. It's cheap and all you need is a Kinect sensor and a projector hooked to your PC.
  • Drone Takes Out Bride And Groom At Wedding - Ok so here's the story. This was shot using a DJI phantom and a gopro camera. This was two days before the wedding at their bridal shoot. This happened towards the beginning. I had done one successful fly by and I brought it around for another pass to make sure it was smooth. I underestimated the lift time and it hit the goom on the side of the face. He had a cut on his cheek and and the side of his head. I felt horrible. Luckily the bride and groom were able to laugh about it after and we continued the shoot. At the request of the bride and groom I put the video online. All though it sucks that this happened. I have decided to own up to what I did, instead of try to hide it from the world.
  • How Astronauts Will 3D Print In Space (video) - So why does NASA plan to launch a 3D printer into space? Astronauts aboard the ISS of course can only use the things that are available on the station. But when much needed parts break or get lost (yes, astronauts apparently lose things up there), sometimes they will have to wait for parts to be send from Earth. And launching multiple spares is not done as they add to the weight. So, if there's a 3D printer out there Astronauts will be able to 3D print equipment and spare parts when needed. The digital blueprints will be provided by NASA or they can simply upload a file from down here. They have already done tests on the 3D printer to see whether or not it is suitable for zero-G, and everything seems to be working fine at the moment.
  • Surge of brain activity may explain near-death experience, study - It's called a near-death experience, but the emphasis is on "near." The heart stops, you feel yourself float up and out of your body. You glide toward the entrance of a tunnel, and a searing bright light envelops your field of vision. It could be the afterlife, as many people who have come close to dying have asserted. But a new study says it might well be a show created by the brain, which is still very much alive. When the heart stops, neurons in the brain appeared to communicate at an even higher level than normal, perhaps setting off the last picture show, packed with special effects.
  • 8-Year-Old Never Ages, Could Reveal 'Biological Immortality'  - Gabby Williams has the facial features and skin of a newborn, and she is just as dependent. Her mother feeds, diapers and cradles her tiny frame as she did the day she was born. The little girl from Billings, Mont., is 8 years old, but weighs only 11 pounds. Gabby has a mysterious condition, shared by only a handful of others in the world, that slows her rate of aging. For the past two years, a doctor who has been trying to find the genetic off-switch to stop the aging process has been studying Gabby, as well as two other people who have striking similarities.
  • 2014 Chevrolet C7 Corvette Stingray (video) - Like its ancestors, and despite endless rumors of a mid-engine successor, the new 2014 Corvette continues to use a front-engine, rear-wheel drive architecture. But in contrast to its predecessors, the all-new model has abandoned much of its heavy steel construction in favor of a lightweight aluminum frame. Thanks to innovative build techniques, including plenty of structural adhesive bonding, the new chassis is 99 pounds lighter than last year's model and 57 percent stiffer.
  • 2015 Fiat 500L Living (video) - You can maximize your 500L Living cargo space to 59.7 cubic feet by knocking down all the seats, or you can opt for the "+2" seating arrangement that sacrifices 3.5 cubic feet of volume for a tantalizing third row of chairs that seems to turn some consumers into dogs of Pavlov, no matter the degree of usefulness of said added row.

  • TX car dealer sued for repeatedly tasering employee - Over a nine-month period, Jones was snuck up on and tased by his co-workers at Fred Fincher Motors in Houston over two dozen times. To make matters worse, it was videotaped and posted on YouTube, purportedly by the dealership's owner, Sam Harless. Jones is no longer with Fincher Motors and has, not surprisingly, lawyered up. He's filed suit against Harless and his wife, Texas State Representative Patricia Harless, who was part owner of the dealership. Jones has also singled out two other co-workers in his suit. He accuses the four of assault and battery and failure to provide a safe work place.

Can you dual boot without having to call MS in order to unlock your own hardware?
No? Sorry, it goes to trash, just like its predecessor.

WTF? Stop pushing your bloatware crap. Skype is obsolete tech, people have moved on to more popular and secure solutions. It would have been nice 4-5 years ago, but nowadays this effort seems like a waste of everyone's time and resources.

I have to say that I am not surprised.
It's only a matter of time until someone comes up with a "secure windows".

Too bad that there was no hacking involved in any of those.
It'd be interesting to see the worst hacking scenes where there's actual hacking done.

Seriously, what OS doesn't push software you don't need or like? Linux does the same thing as does Apple. It's just whining to whine. Now if you were whining at how pathetic Sony is, then I'd say nothing. Jeez.

Linux doesn't push software you don't like or need. There are distros bundled with the most used software, but you're [u:f041dcf0a4]free[/u:f041dcf0a4] to download the bare-bones version.

Why does every thread has to be about your hatred towards Sony, Tom? How sad must you be to continuously bring it up and make yourself feel bad? Do yourself a favor and stop wasting time and energy on something that makes you feel bad and is affecting you in a negative way...

Tom(09:58 PM CEST - Aug,19 2013 )
Actually Linux does push software I don't like and unless I go through the painful process of tracking it down in pre-install, it gets installed. Then after it's installed and I see the crap I remove it. Same goes for Windows, you don't like Skype you remove it. If it's tied like IE was then MS will get sued. But I doubt it's burned into the OS. It's just whining. You talk about most used? Skype has +30 million users. I wonder how much the trashware they install by default on Linux has.

I enjoy putting a shit company like Sony down. As a matter of fact, my sig will soon be slanderous towards Sony. And, it made you yap about it right? Mission accomplished.

I can and do, thanks - why don't you give it a try before simply believing what you read.

I didn't even bother with him. LOL! Don't even know where he got that it does that anyway. Must be a Tech Buff like Stumpus. I've dual booted, Win7, Ubuntu and CentOS for a long long time.

Highlight of dimwit toms week.,'mission accomplished' ....... What a complete idiot! Something you expect out of the mouth of a 13year old...wait, that's what we got!

Still, this is the tech buff that buys a Nexus 7, drops it, talks about the nicks and scrapes as if its normal, but won't buy a £10 case to protect near £200 of hardware.
I'm kinda lost on that mentality? I come from a generation that respected what we had and owned. Tom comes from the i know the price of everything, but the value of fuck all! generation, Born yesterday, but of course he will get a case when his old man pension comes in..... But how are you supposed to get a case for a 10 inch tab? Says, Tom. Wow, I don't known Tom, why don't you tell us. I can't wait?
I would buy the case now Tom, that way you won't forget that you can GET a case for your next 10inch tab and after all, the case is the most expensive outlay for you to get your tech head around, eh?

Soooo fucking technical, I'm lost already.

Tom> Original N7 here, dropped it a few times never had a problem. Few nicks on the edges but works perfectly. Looks like the new ones are not as well constructed. You can get a great case for < $10. I don't use any case and don't plan too. How will I ever get a 10" tablet if I put a case on mine?  I'm not wealthy like other people on here, like getting a new video card when I don't need one. Maybe one day when my old man pension comes in.
Priceless.....

doodah(08:46 PM CEST - Aug,20 2013 )
Csimbi> Do you call this normal and easy?

No, because that's Wubi - it's not dual booting, it uses some turdy DOS program to load Linux off the NTFS partition, which the program can't do as it doesn't support UEFI.

Again you are a fucking idiot. What else is fucking new eh Mr Tech Buff? You need a slap in the side of the head. Tell your Techy wife to do it for me will ya. Bet ya she's itching to do it.

1. The N7 cost me $169 with taxes. Works perfectly fine. I have a lot of money? I'm not the douche who replaces perfectly working hardware. I have no ego to satisfy unlike you. I believe in buying things that will give me a long life without senseless upgrades. I have a family, house and kids that I support on my own. I'm not rich so when I buy something, I buy it with smarts. Not like you. The PS3, worst decision I ever made, piece of shit that got feature raped. Learned my lesson to stay far far far away from anything Sony.
2. Because I run custom roms with many features, a stupid case does nothing but interfere with those features. I don't need a case unless my kids are going to use it or I'm travelling. I'm not a fuck up like you ya douche bag.
3. I don't take care of anything? That why I still have my original Atari, Colecovision, Coleco Adam computer WITH turbo Tape drive, Vic 20 (used) and one still brand new in box and plastic wrap. Commodore 64, my walkmans (cd/tape) still working. That's why I have a fully working IBM PC XT in my house. I still even have all or most of the games and disks and tapes from 20+ years ago. Because I don't take care of stuff. You fuck head. If you had a clue you'd be dangerous.

I'm not the idiot who goes and upgrades his video card every year because I have no fucking clue what I'm doing much less tweak my OS and run proper drivers. Still have my 560GTX I bought years ago and works with everything. I didn't go replace my 560 with a 660 or something like you fucking did. Mr Tech Buff. Pfft.

You're free to do whatever you want. My "yapping" is me having enough of your Sony bashing. I don't give a damn about them, but you keep bringing it up even in threads like this where it's out of place. If your mission is to irritate people, then you're admitting to being a troll.

I'm not the [censored] who goes and upgrades his video card every year because I have no fucking clue what I'm doing much less tweak my OS and run proper drivers. Still have my 560GTX I bought years ago and works with everything. I didn't go replace my 560 with a 660 or something like you fucking did. Mr Tech Buff. Pfft.

Tom your a fucking numb pile of horse shit! You have lots of money, quote. Then you quote yourself as having little money in your own quote. Like I said, a steaming plié of horse shit and as thick as!

Just understand, your are nothing but the most hated TROLL on this site. Mission accomplished.

I have apparently upgraded my graphics card? Oh cheers, when is it arriving? Another wonderful quote from thick as shit Tom. As long as you keep quoting it Tom I'll keep batting it back at you!

Tech buff, asshole.

Need a bat around your head, never mind a slap. Your so clueless, even when people re quote what you said it never sinks in but boy, does it sure make you one thick mutherfucker!
