Scrolls is the latest game from Mojang - creators of Minecraft. You use the power of creatures, spells, and ancient machines to gain the edge in battle, deploying your forces by using scrolls: some rare, some common, some brutal, some tactical. Over time you'll develop a unique army and the skills to manipulate it. Eventually, you'll face off against other players, proving your might on the battlefield.

This crap about buying beta test software is threatening to spiral completely out of control. It's becoming de rigueur in the industry, and that's a Very Bad Thing: "Oh, if you pre-order, we'll let you download the beta..."

Horsefeathers. It's an incomplete product and you're charging people for it. For shame.

I haven't actually bought into any pre-order beta thingies before but it's not necessarily a bad thing.

If it's clear up front that you're getting a beta, AND you get it for a slightly reduced cost, AND get the full game when it comes out at no additional cost I don't see the problem.

It's just a way of getting a boost in funds at the end of their development cycle. I mean it's alot better (to me) than releasing the game in a buggy or unpolished state and charging full price for it (which is what most AAA titles seem to do).

Now if the poor suckers have to pay more for the full game when it comes out then yeah that's kinda shitty.
