Paul Steed, best known for his 3D modeling work at id software working on classics like Quake and Wing Commander, has passed away unexpectedly. Steed had an incredibly diverse career. He is perhaps best known for his 3D modeling work, but he was also an author, a console developer, a game developer with companies like Electronic Arts and id, a keynote speaker at the 2008 Game Developer's Conference, and he also ran his own game development company, Exigent. God bless and comfort his family during this tragic time. He will surely be missed, not just for his astounding contributions he has made in the world of gaming, but more so for the man he was to those who loved him.

  • The Intel SSD 910 Review - From a performance perspective, the Intel SSD 910 is an absolute beast.  Pricing is also extremely competitive with other high-end enterprise PCIe offerings. Intel comes in at $5/GB for its top of the line enterprise SSD, despite the 710 being introduced at over $6 per GB. If you really want to get nostalgic, the old X25-E launched at over $15/GB. The cost per GB is much lower if you take into account how much NAND Intel is actually putting on board the 910. With 56 x 32GB 25nm MLC-HET die on a single 800GB 910, you're talking about around $2.23 per GB. 
  • The Intel SSD 330 Review (60GB, 120GB, 180GB) - The biggest problem with Intel's SSD 330 really stems from the limitations of its SandForce controller. Performance with incompressible (or software encrypted) data is hardly competitive. As an unencrypted OS/application drive the 330 is great, but if you're planning on using software encryption or will be primarily storing photos, videos and music you'll want to opt for a drive based on a different controller technology. In the end it's good to see Intel playing aggressively on price. The 330 is likely one of the best SandForce drives on the market, and not having to pay a premium for it is pretty awesome.
  • CyberLink: Thanks for No DVD Playback in Windows 8 - Microsoft's decision to not support DVD playback in the Windows 8 Media Player has generally not been very well received by prospective customers. There is at least one exception to Microsoft's decision, a software company that is happy for the change and turned it into a money making opportunity. Taiwan-based company CyberLink claims it has secured deals with a number of PC makers to have three of its software products pre-installed on Windows 8 devices.
  • Microsoft talks about converting PDF files to Word files in Word - The goal of PDF Reflow is to convert PDF content into Word documents that contain the original layout intent and that flow correctly across pages when you edit or read. In other words, when you convert a PDF in Word, the elements in the document should act as if you created them in Word. A list from a PDF, for instance, will act just like any other list in Word: hit Enter at the end of a bulleted paragraph and a new bullet will be created.
  • New Virus Linked To Stuxnet Found - Kaspersky Lab ZAO said that the newly-discovered virus shared similarities in terms of structure and operation with Flame, a program aimed at vacuuming information from target computers. Flame in turn shared similarities with Stuxnet, a program experts believe was designed to sabotage Iran's disputed nuclear program.
  • uTorrent becomes ad-supported torrent client - The creator of the popular torrent client uTorrent has announced that the upcoming release of uTorrent will have 'in-client offers.' In other words, people will have to deal with ads when running uTorrent.  Users who pay for the uTorrent Plus version won't have to put up with the ads, but that will cost USD $24.95.

This crawling motion is referred to as peristalsis and while it may not be very fast, it does allow it to navigate through tough terrain where wheels or legs may not work.
