A day after the PC version of Crysis 2 was pulled from sale from Valve's popular Steam download site, the sci-fi first person shooter's publisher Electronic Arts is now speaking out. In a statement to GameFront, EA stated that they had nothing to do with Crysis 2 being removed from sale from Steam: Itâ€™s unfortunate that Steam has removed Crysis 2 from their service. This was not an EA decision or the result of any action by EA.

Steam has imposed a set of business terms for developers hoping to sell content on that service â€“ many of which are not imposed by other online game services. Unfortunately, Crytek has an agreement with another download service which violates the new rules from Steam and resulted in its expulsion of Crysis 2 from Steam.

Crysis 2 continues to be available on several other download services including GameStop, Amazon, Origin.com and more.
Good. I wasn't planning on buying this game anyway. Now I won't have to worry about it tempting me in the future.

I think the good people at steam are having their success going to their head.

I haven't bought any big new release games on steam for about one or two years, because they staunchly insist on asking a constant 50 or 60 euro for every new game here, even when other, traditionally expensive german download sites offer them for less.

I don't believe Steam's assertions that these prices are publisher based anymore. It's simply Steam knowing that by binding people to the "value" their service offers they can find enough dumb suckers who'll pay the premium for it.

It's only good for sniping deals anymore, at least here in germany, and even those are often better, and at the same time, on other sites.

I just received a message from steam on my tertiarty machine, that I cannot run Crysis any more, because I have activated too many times, lol. Are these fuckers for real? I can't run my legally purchased game, that is assigned for ever on my own account? wtf?

So if i understand this correctly, they aren't going to sell crysis 2 on their store because they can't be the only one to sell it? Who do they think they are that they can demand exclusivity? pfft. Bring out HL3 or HL2:EP3 and all will be forgiven Valve! :) I need closure!

So where does that bring you? One less customer or one more purchase?
Steam (and similar services) are deemed to die in the long run. Fun in the beginning, not so much later, annoying in the middle, a pain near the end and so dead in the end...
GOG is great, I will stick with that. Oh, wait, there's no DRM on GOG! I think I can live with that.

Can you provide me a link to the claim/story that these service providers are deemed to die in the long run? I'm sorry to tell you that that is bullshit. Electronic services such as steam will flourish not die out. Having a physical medium to distribute such things is a long gone fella. This is the electronic age and it's only getting better.

im with csimbi, most of these services will die out, especially ones like steam.
big developers will cut out the middle men even indie games cut steam out these days. i bought torchlight from their page instead of steam so i dont have to run steam while playing.
and i dont see a reason to buy at steam at all if the game is 59.99 on release day on steam and 34.99 at my local store where i not only get the game nearly for half the price i even get a hardcopy i can resell if im fedup with it.

You are right about the pricing. I am with you all the way with that.

The thing is, that the fuckers at steam provide some services, that are very much needed, especially for PC gaming.

One of these things, is that you keep your games in one place. Easily accessed and automatically updated. You don't even have to know when a new patch with or w/o new content comes out for you game. Steam does it for you.

They also have a file check utility which can be very useful if you are experiencing game crashes or something.

They also have Steam cloud, with which you can access your savegames from anywhere, plus it keeps them safe from system crashes etc.

Their instant messenger is secondary, but a nice addition non the less.

Also to be fair, they do have some crazy offers from time.

From my point of view, steam can suck me when it comes to newly released games. They are too expensive.

Still, all hope is not lost. There are services like G2play.net and cjs-keys that have tremendous price difference. I bought Red Faction Armageddon and Duke Nukem for 30 euros each while steam was selling them for 50 euros. I am talking about Steam keys here. I just activated them in my steam account and that's that. I have done this many times and the games work fine.

PS Regarding my Crysis 1 game being activated too many times, steam responded that it's not their fault and that I should contact EA or Securom. That does make sense. It's the other fucker's fault.

@psolord You missed one thing (which devilhood is hinting above). Gamers do not need to worry about corporate crap. You know, one company buying another, taking over all their assets and everything. With Steam, you do not need to worry about moving from one place to another. You stay in one place; no need to register on other sites to claim what's rightfully yours when the s**t hits the fan.
