TechNews - Microsoft Shows Off Radical New UI - tech
(hx) 02:50 AM CET - Feb,28 2011 - Post a comment / read (5)
  • Samsung talks about 20nm chips, tests in 2011 - Moore's Law states that the density of a chip will double approximately every two years. Samsung has declared that the law is not slowing down to a halt for the company, disclosing details regarding the roll-out of 20nm process technology, which will enable the transistor count to roughly double yet again.
  • GIGABYTE shipping new B3 P67 and H67 motherboards, available as early as this week - GIGABYTE has announced on Friday that they have begun shipping motherboards with the new B3-stepping Intel P67 and H67 Express chipsets. The products are expected to be available as early as this week, when shipments start to clear customs in markets around the world.
  • MSI annouces exchange procedures for P67 and H67 motherboards - MSI has announced it is now ready to swap faulty B2-stepping Intel P67 and H67 motherboards with revised B3-stepping ones. Users can either register online for an exchange and wait for MSI's go-ahead for a swap, or wait till the end of March for a walk-in exchange at the store the board was purchased from.
  • Microsoft Shows Off Radical New UI, Could be Used in Windows 8 - In a three and a half minute video, Microsoft may have shown the world what it has in store for the eagerly awaited Windows 8. In the video Microsoft showed a radically different interface from past versions of Windows -- even Windows 7. Running on Surface 2, the touch-screen successor to the original Microsoft Surface, the device accepts input from a Windows Phone 7 handset (HTC HD7). Gone are the icons that drive Windows, OS X, and Linux operating systems of past and present. In their place are "bubbles" that interacted with files and post streaming information off the internet.
  • PC Perspective Podcast #143 - This week they talk about AMD's response to the Sandy Bridge bug, the Vertex 3 Pro SATA 6G SSD, ECS P67H2-A motherboard, OnLive micro console, Bulldozer details and much more!
  • Bloomberg Launching Daily Live Tech TV - Beginning Monday, Bloomberg West debuts on the air to 250 million people around the world. The daily news show will focus on technology, innovation and business topics.
  • Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 Service Pack 1 Released - Everything went smooth and I haven't encountered any issue (manual download link). As I reported last week, SP1 only contains two major new features, which will not affect the majority of users. The first of the two is RemoteFX, a standalone product that requires Windows Server 2008 R2 to be used. RemoteFX allows users to watch high-quality video and interact with 3D applications over a remote desktop session -- this will change the way Virtual Machines are used, as they have had limited display capabilities until now. The second feature is an update for HyperV in Windows Server 2008 R2 called "Dynamic Memory". The feature is as simple as it sounds -- it dynamically allocates memory to virtual machines as required and is able to remove memory from virtual machines when others need higher resources.
  • Firefox 4 Beta 12 Build Released - Get it while it's hot. The 12th version of beta has been released and confirmed to be the last beta prior to the introduction of the release candidate:
  • Hacking: How to get free internet access - Traveler demonstrates just how easy it is to get free internet access in any city or neighborhood! Enjoy!
  • iPad 2 Confirmed By Apple - Apple email sent out to media agencies to attend the March 2nd event of a new tablet is nothing but revealing. The next-generation Apple iPad, which were calling the iPad 2 will most likely have the following features and specifications; 10.1-inch retina display, A5 processor at 1.5Ghz with dual-core configurations, one camera for sure, with the possibility of dual cameras, and of course 1080p. Cost should be relatively the same as what we see now.
  • Next Up: iPhone 5 - Next week Apple will spill the beans on the iPad 2, which can only mean one thing: It's time to start focusing on the iPhone 5 -- which will (probably) be announced in June 2011. iPhone 5's digitizer panel?Like clockwork, 9 to 5 Mac on Friday uncovered a photo from a Chinese reseller of Apple parts that will get that process under way. The site suggests the unconfirmed part could be the digitizer panel for the next iPhone. Interestingly enough, the part appears to have a larger cutout section for a screen which could support earlier reports from DigiTimes that the new model will feature a four-inch display to compete with some Android devices.
  • LifeProof Case for iPhone 4 Offers Military Spec Ruggedness - The idea is to provide military spec protection in a case that doesn't look all that bulky. In fact, the LifeProof case ($69.99) only adds 1.3mm of thickness to your iPhone 4. That's no worse than the many non-military spec'd cases out there, but it's obviously not as thin as something like Invisible Shield by Zagg. As a rough and tumble case, the LifeProof case can submerge in up to 6.6 feet of water. It'll also stand up to to dust, dirt, snow, six foot drops, and all sorts of other abuse.
  • Tiny Wings - Official Gameplay Trailer (iPhone/iPad) - A new challenger to Angry Birds was launched quietly last week and is topping out the download list this week.
  • Mazda takes the MX-5 to the ice (video) - Mazda just wrapped up a four-hour race in Are, Sweden, that brought 20 MX-5 roadsters out on the open ice for a little fender-to-fender action. Teams faced temperatures that dipped as low as -24 degrees Fahrenheit and stiff competition from racers from around the world.
  • Guess What I Just Saw Going Down The Street? - A bunch of geese running down the street! Woot!
  • Imagine getting a SMS and a photo-realistic head pops up on your - check it out
  • Vietnam wants to block online games after 10PM - As with most Asian nations, online gaming tends to be a lot more popular than here, and it tends to get a lot more youngsters addicted as well. Which is why the Government of Vietnam is demanding all ISPs operating in the country to implement an Internet curfew of sorts, where all online gaming is blocked after 10PM which lasts until 8AM the following morning, each day of the week.
  • BATTLE: LOS ANGELES - In Theaters 3.11.11 - check it out
  • They're Back - First Teaser Trailer for 'The Hangover Part II' - In the sequel to The Hangover, Phil, Stu, Alan and Doug visit Bangkok, Thailand for Stu's wedding. I'm looking forward to seeing more of the trouble they get in to and the chaos they cause, as I'm sure that will be the good stuff. The Hangover Part II arrives in theaters on May 26th this summer!
  • Genevieve Morton makes US Sports Illustrated Swimsuit 2011 - Genevieve Morton, 24, hails from Benoni, South Africa, and her friends call her Little Miss Sunshine. She has been the face of Guess watches, and has appeared in Greece Vogue and South African Sports Illustrated. This is Genevieve's second U.S appearance in the Swimsuit Issue.
  • Adriana Lima is a Natural Wonder for Victoria's Secret - How about more shots of the sultry Brazilian beauty in Victoria's Secret lingerie?
  • Can Brooklyn Decker Make the Switch from Modeling to Acting? - 2010 SI cover girl Brooklyn Decker is currently being seen on the screen in the hit comedy 'Just Go With It,' but that doesn't mean she can automatically make the transition from supermodel to actress. Of course, the fact that she's drop-dead gorgeous doesn't hurt!

re Microscum radical shit ass NUI computer direction...

"Move the computers away from tool to a helper".... yeah that helps you become more in sync with what they want to be, brainwashed mentally handicap suckers reliant on poor 'helpers' that do more collecting about you and wasting your time, than being at all useful to you.

To me the direction is all about making dumbification a good thing and hooking people on shit they don't really need in their lives, one because it isn't at all better than what is already possible. It pretty much shows in everything Microsoft does in marketing/selling, now they are just trying to change the game by testing the waters and starting new eco system from which to sell to suckers. If they can sell 'Less is more' to the public, then its less work for them. Just look at IE9 as a browser.. its a pathetic joke compared to the rich user experience someone can get with Firefox as very easily customizable and extensible browser platform. (At least it still is, the amount of code functionality stripping is becoming stupid, FF 4.1 might have to chuck out the bookmarks sidebar and tell you to go use some social bookmarking site and view it in tab :P )

These futurist interfaces generally seem to be a joke, its like looking at sci-fi games and movies where computer displays, where they look like targeted app use only information kiosks with limited access in functionality, color representation is usually all same hue, more power point presentational than they can ever be functional. To think you're in getting more control/oversight/management over data/whatever it is, is stupid.

p.s the gui reminds me of game called Osmos. Basically get BIGGER, only here its not really the user that benefits, its a company called Microscum who suck the life, data and money out of foolish people and businesses, who really aren't thinking at all they are being manipulated, otherwise they'd see what is really going on and why they shouldn't want this direction in cloud computing and social collectivism, it only benefits corrupt government and corporate fascists who want you more connected but in a humanly disconnected sort of way.

"Vietnam wants to block online games after 10PM " looks like another government nanny state is parent, more than parents themselves heck they're probably in modern wage slavery thanks to their corrupt government anyway, fuck no wonder their kids are taking to nomadic gaming realities.... fucking societies don't do shit about cretinous control freak dictators, more likely to want to be one themselves.

@LifeProof ...UpgradeProof? :P

I think they will call it Microsoft Bubbles.

it's good system if you don't actually even need a PC. Just like Windows Media Center.
