Blizzard Bans Single Player Cheaters - briefly
(hx) 08:58 PM CEST - Oct,10 2010 - Post a comment / read (24)
The chaps over at CheatHappens.com have published an interesting article that discusses the recent move by Blizzard to begin banning players found to be cheating in single player games of Starcraft 2: Wings of Liberty. Here's an excerpt:
Cheat Happens user gm0ney has yet to play Blizzard’s much anticipated Starcraft 2: Wings of Liberty online. He’s spent the majority of his time playing through the game’s campaign and AI skirmish matches, which makes the email he received that much stranger. “Offense: Terms of Use Violation - Exploitative Activity: Unauthorized cheat programs (‘hacks’). Account Action: 14 day (336 hour) suspension.” The user had been suspended, for using the trainer for Starcraft 2 created and distributed by CheatHappens.com, strictly against AI opponents. “Gm0ney” isn’t alone either, Blizzard’s actions have left many Cheat Happens users with a suspension or much worse, a lifetime ban, it also has many wondering - is it legal?

“I was mostly shocked,” Cheat Happens gm0ney said of the ban e-mail. “Although with all of the news about bans and suspensions coming up, I was somewhat prepared. Blizzard has made it very public in the few months since the game’s release that they would take immediate action against anyone found cheating in any form of StarCraft 2. “We take cheating in our games very seriously,” said a Blizzard spokesperson in a press release. “If you’re caught cheating in Starcraft 2, Blizzard, as per the terms in the EULA reserves the right to ban your battle.net account and/or CD key from ever playing again, online or off. In essence, it’s the language of the EULA that’s in question in the argument as Blizzard states that “playing anything other than an unaltered game client violates the Battle.net terms or use. “We strongly recommend that you avoid using any hacks, cheats or exploits.”

oh, come on, Blizzard. This is stupid-it's just a single player game. nobody is hurt. What if the guy (girl?) is lacking skills or it is too hard for him to beat the game?
Instead of banning, they should be making money on it. There's defenitely a demand, and nobody asked why. Create your own cheats for single player and sell them. Or make it a bundle for Limited Edition. Or whatever. The kid just wants to have fun.

Koogle(09:15 PM CEST - Oct,10 2010 )
Fuck those Blizzretarded shit heads and their battle.net crap platform, they created those problems by design and now think they'll get away with it.

You're an Idiot. It's because of piracy and game theft that things are the way they are with games now. Yet you sit there supporting the very idiots that have made companies turn to such drastic measures.

In case the lot of you complaining and bitching continuously about the extreme methods game companies take to protect there intellectual properties haven't realized yet.. read this very closely.. THE PIRATES ARE TO BLAME for all of this. all the online authentication BS all this crap with having to be connected to play is all because of Pirates.
Quit supporting these damn pirates quit being cheap little bastards and just pay for the game stop looking for stupid ways to get it for free.

Any one that supports pirates and thinks there fighting the good fight in game company tyranny is as blind as they are stupid to the cause of said tyranny.

Piracy isn't as rampant as you seem to think. The extent of monetary loss isn't as great either.

There are quite a few cases and one in particular such as Sins of Solar Empire which has no protection at all that is still supported today and has had expansions even recently.

I can say with confidence that you will find more people that have issues with DRM and getting the actual games to work out of the box trouble free than people pirating any game combined.

Piracy is a scapegoat that is played like a card to help control distribution among other things. Are you that naive to think that brick and mortar stores (chains) don't account for minor thefts? Theft happens and it doesn't seem to bring these companies down to their knees like you seem to think it does in this case.

This attempt is shady at best. How would you like it if you bought a new Corvette and just because you put on some window tint or changed the radio out GM decided to take the car back even though you already paid for it? It's the same scenario with real items costing real money that you own physically.

I don't know who's the idiot in this case.

When I PAY for MY game it is MINE to do what I WISH. If I buy an electric heater and fancy to break it the next day, it's my business and noone else's. Noone will ban me if I break my heater.

So why the fuck should they ban me on MY SINGLE PLAYER game? For MP I understand it. For SP, they can go drop dead.

This will only give people one more excuse not to buy Diablo III. I said "not buy", not "not play" and this is Blizzard's fault alone.

They do these things, because they think every gamer is a 14yo console owner that can pass to him whatever they want.

well if they are the idiots , who are the idiots to blame seeing how they make half games , just so they can sell DLC later on , i help you those who said " If people want to but that "Horse armor for Oblivion , let them"

Thats when it all started , after they saw what they could earn , every compagny has that shit , and for fucking blizzard who is not a game compagny in my eyes anymore ( I say more a social network facebook up there ass compagny) they really push it , and not for the good , peps warez there games because you get forced to use there fucking battlenet , there realid shet , there facebook shet , " hey dude it is opt in , opt out"
yeaaa just like they havent made a deal with mr.zuckeberg......right ??
that bonehead is in there house and don't tell me that he is there for fun!
looooots of zombies playing there looots of info for him.

I for once won't support Faceblizz anymore , they can't buy me with a Pet.

ohh and is it not funny how they release "Fake Sub numbers so close to there next Farmvill : Catalysm.

I know Blizzard is bit paranoid what comes to cheating, but
this is just a huge overkill. It is made for SINGLEPLAYER mode and using trainer
does not effect in MULTIPLAYER mode. People have used trainers
on singleplayer games for years to have some fun.

Imagine ID Software doing same when
Quakes were popular, they would have to ban 90% of players

Maybe EA should start to ban Sims-players for using cheats!

Blizzard fails so badly now...

I do understand your point of view but the idiot here is you!!!
What you say is what all those moneysuckers want you to think!!!
They blame piracy for money loss ? Really ?
What money ? The money i'll never spend on their stupid games ?
Are you buying all the games you like, based on trailers, pre-made videos ? Are you one of the retard consumers ?
Since the game makers started to produce dumbed down games for retard idiots, in huge amounts, I am in my right to not spend my money on that crap! And i DONT!!!
That doesnt make me stop to check out what those morons actually offer and if i like it i go out and fukin buy it!!!
Starcraft 2 is the one game i didnt buy because of various reasons! One is this ONLINE only policy!!! Other is that this game is not my game!!! I didnt even play beyond 3rd level...
So tell me, is there a way to return the game after i buy it and play it and get my money ?
No dude, i dont think so - at least not in my country!

The same goes for movies!
It was many years ago that i stopped "eating" the shit they throw at me with trailers and other advertisement stuff.
Fack me but i never heard for a place on this planet that offers a return of your money if you leave the theater before the movie ends, or after if you dont like the fakin movie!!!

So mate, as i says! LONG LIVE THE PIRATES!!! and thank them for the possibility they give me NOT SPENDING MY MONEY ON SOMETHING I MIGHT NOT LIKE!!

p.s. AND dont give me that crap about DEMOS that go out 3-6 months after the game release! (Some companies release demos earlier, this is cool!)

Majnun(03:32 PM CEST - Oct,11 2010 )
I think you are missing the point here.

To justify this as a response to piracy is idiotic.

What someone does in the LEGALLY PURCHASED offline, single-player campaign has NOTHING to do with piracy.

Explain to me how piracy has anything to do with someone wanting to cheat in the SINGLE PLAYER campaign?

This is not about piracy AT ALL. And it's not about cheating in the multi-player game either. If it WAS about that, then fine, ban the fuckers. But this has nothing to do with that (assuming it's true).

Sabot(06:01 PM CEST - Oct,11 2010 )
There is some complete idiots here..(psolord)..which isn't a surprise.
Every BIT of software you buy is controlled by a license -PERIOD!! You must agree to that license BEFORE installing and/or using it (that's that long winded box of text that you tick that you 'have read and understood' before continuing to install-which happens to have been around for at least 15years that i can remember) One thing is clear here. You DON'T ever OWN software, you BUY a license to use it!!!
The other thing that's wonderfull about PC gaming is that you are not LEGALLY allowed to disassemble nor recompile game code -again in the license agreement. Using a trainer is modifying code to cheat, yeah we've all done it, but now your getting watched by BIG bro and they're obviously monitoring your activities and therefore stopping you from using a trainer for (possible) ONLINE purposes?

As for breaking a heater...sure psolord, you can do that. The point that manufacturers make is that 'they contain no user serviceable parts', so any attempt at repairing your broken heater invalidates the warranty -unless you use an authorised repair centre. In other words; say you stick a bit of tin foil over the contacts of a broken internal fuse and it burst into flames -result your house burned down? Well it would be tough titty =no compensation, no insurance payout.

As long as PC gaming remains connected to the net, the .exe reports back that you've fucked about with code and red lights start flashing on Blizzard's warning desk. YES even SINGLE PLAYER -STEAM anyone???
Welcome to todays wonderful PC gaming experience created for you by asshole anti-piracy measures!

psolord(11:38 PM CEST - Oct,11 2010 )
Hey Dufus, I know what a EULA is and they can shove it.

I was not stating what is forged by law, but what I feel like a user. The game is mine, end of story. If I fancy, I'll tear it apart.

The good thing is, that there's nothing they can do to stop me.

That's why I have turned my back to every kind of online gaming, so they will have no means to control me. I can buy the game and still play the Reloaded version if I want, if they do stupid things like this one.

Tom(04:59 AM CEST - Oct,12 2010 )
Single player is a little excessive but I have no remorse for anyone banned. Tough shit. It's in the EULA, read it and believe it. If Blizzard says you will be banned you will. I thought that was already a little fucking obvious. As I said time and time again, PC is the shithole of gaming. Not talking the games, talking the idiots who play on the platform.

Big Brother? A little excessive as far as I'm concerned Stumpus. Because they put in efforts to ensure their product you bought is being played properly you look at it like this? Be happy they give a shit. I guess your philosophy on big brother would also include cable companies who have systems in place to make sure you don't pirate their boxes.

“I strongly recommend that you avoid buying anything from Blizzard”

That coming from a total ass tard.

Csimbi(08:03 PM CEST - Oct,12 2010 )
IMHO,
- it is encouraging piracy,
- a paradise for zombie farmers and
- it is good for sites like rapidshare, and other sites that make money from hosting questionable content.
Gamers with the desire to cheat in a single-player game will be forced to use modified executables that do not report home the fact that the user has cheated.
Modified executables will need to be hosted, malicious code can be added by anyone uploading it, viruses can spread and so on...
You do the math.

Koogle(01:04 AM CEST - Oct,13 2010 )
No Raven99 you small minded idiot,

"THE PIRATES ARE TO BLAME for all of this"

A tiny portion of people not throwing money away at shit they wouldn't buy in the first place are the people you scream at and point your beady little finger towards? LOL gimmie a break I don't know if full on idiot or just very naive.

You're a complete ignorant moron, piracy isn't even half the problem the game/music/software industries want to make out it is. As it provides them with multiple excuses and draconian solutions to their MANY many shortfalls.

These counter productive anti-piracy/cheat measures are stupid solutions that put on the show of tying to fight back at insignificant problem, while forcing all those who actually payed and are playing fair to suffer the repercussions of these fail designed solutions. Customers are being fooled into thinking they're getting a really good deal, but fail to see how they're slowly given up their own rights, and forcing smaller developers into fixed market monopolies. When you really look at what is going on, the agenda is all about creating unified gaming platforms that can take control and consolidate the industry into the hands of a few. EA/Valve/BlizzCraptivision/Microspy/noSy(Sony) who were caught years ago slipping in rootkits on retail cd's.

Piracy is never praised for what its done best, give consumers the freedom to enjoy what they have bought without all the shit they'd otherwise have to put up with. All these scumbags in the industry know how they've benefited from it, but they'll cry to the fucking cows come home about how its hurting them. They hurt themselves by being such arrogant greedy fucktards. Personally if piracy stopped tomorrow, all those companies would soon feel a real awakening backslash of people not supporting their crap anymore.

Piracy is just one of things that can be easily pointed out to by shit head CEOs as the main reason they aren't getting bigger profits on crap half assed developed regurgitated games. The second is the.. second hand market they feel they aren't swindling out enough customers. It must really burn their shitty arses that some people buy a game and then let friends and family play it without paying a cent. :P

"Quit supporting these damn pirates quit being cheap little bastards and just pay for the game stop looking for stupid ways to get it for free. "

Let me rephrase this narrow minded dimwits garbage, sounds like a stupid cunt who has failed to pay close attention to the gaming industry.

Quit supporting these large gaming scumbag organizations and be wiser gamers who don't pay for shit and shoddy games that want to push out their draconian garbage, start supporting small indie developers.

And don't steal, the white collar criminals of made men in governments, banks, the injustice scum system of lawlessnes and insurance fraudsters don't like your concurrence. Funnily piracy (freedom) and anything related is constantly put in reframed non-issues for the lame stream media to hype up its garbage, its made into more of a social problem than the real problems affecting society baddly. That nothing is done about apart from bailing out the fail bad parasites, corporations already have more lobbying power in laws, scum judges agree to. Jeeez I wonder why that is.... Probably has more to do with wanting to curtail the internet into a heavily controlled and censored platform owned and controlled by corporations and governments to dictate the direction. Oh what fucking stupid corporates and consumers the world has for globalist scumbags to rob blind and deceive daily. Wake up fools.

Miss your bipolar medication again Koogle?

for those that don't know about his condition here is a summary.

Koogle(12:34 AM CEST - Oct,14 2010 )
The only disorder is in you Tom, you bitter sad act! Easy to see when you take the time to try and find something like bipolar disorder and even put my alias to it.. lol pathetic. I'm sure you already know what you are by now(scumbag), its been pointed out enough times and you do nothing about it- truly sad.

Also bipolar is often used by psychiatry/quackery shit heads in order to mis-diagnose people and get them to take harmful psychiatric drugs which do nothing buy cause more health and mental problems ..or in other words dumbing them down to be dependent. Great for various industries of parasitic scumbags to profit from doing fuck all but causing more problems in society.

p.s when you gonna jump in for a game you so badly wanted to be challenged on, I'll take the time anyday to beat your lame noob ass, or did you just chicken out of that.
