Bad Company 2 to Include In-Game Store - interview
(hx) 11:06 PM CET - Feb,09 2010 - Post a comment / read (4)
The chaps over at Worthplaying has conducted an interview with Senior Producer, Patrick Bach who revealed Bad Company 2 will have an in-game store with content that can purchased as well as free content. Here's a taster:
WP: Is there anything about the game that we haven't talked about that you wanted to add?

PB: One thing that's also very interesting is how we see our customers. We see the game as the first step to a longer experience. We have an in-game store where you get free content or you can buy new content to the game, so it's a very integral part of the game that we will have a long post-launch campaign. I think people will be thrilled to see what's in that already. On day one, you will get some really cool stuff.

WP: We saw the launch of Battlefield 1943 on Xbox Live Arcade, and that went well. Has there been any more talk at DICE about going back to those older PC properties for PSN and Xbox Live? Were you happy with what happened, or was it an experiment that didn't work out?

PB:
It started as an experiment, but it turned out to be much bigger than anyone could have anticipated. I think we're the best-selling Xbox Live title ever produced, and we got pretty good reviews. The customer feedback has been extremely good. From that perspective, it's a complete success, and you never know what will happen in the future. It's definitely something that we got a good taste from, so you'll never know what happens.

People ya how bad MW2 is but this game is nothing but a sham. It's BF2 with new gfx that's about it. I pre-ordered and cancelled within a week. The game sucks and the future of it is just like the others, dead in a few months. There are better games coming that my money will go towards. I'm glad they put out the beta because it just confirmed what I already suspected.

It looks like you have realised that these games have reached a stage of maturity where is not that much to change or 'improve' apart from the graphics and sound. This game series is really no different in my mind than the long running and iterative sports franchises. I don't think that is necessarily a bad thing either. If people like the fundamental gameplay mechanics but need an excuse to stretch the legs of their latest graphics cards, then really, I think that's really who it's for.

I put my money into Bioshock 2. I never saw myself buying it but I caved after the BS fiasco of BC2 and now having played it the entire night last night I am stunned! Great game, great story and dialogue.
