Microsoft to launch Game Room For GFWL - briefly

Yesterday evening, during Microsoft's Consumer Electronics Show keynote address, Steve Balmer, CEO of Microsoft, announced that Xbox Live would feature the Game Room, which will allow users to walk around a virtual space with their avatars, visit with friends and challenge others to play retro arcade games. The Game Room will feature the ability to design your own space and will ship with 30 available games, all of which can be purchased via Xbox Live. The games, arcade classics, will include titles such as Space Hawk, Sea Battle, Astrosmash, Sub Hunt and more. During the keynote address, Balmer noted that 'we’ll be launching a new set of arcade games, over a thousand games over the next three years on Game Room.'

The feature will launch this spring for both Xbox 360 and Games For Windows Live on PC. Games can be played once for 40 MSP or they can be bought for either 240 MSP or 400MSP. The lower price point allows access to a game on one device (PC/360), while the higher one will allow you to access it on both. Meanwhile, the computing giants have also confirmed that their motion controlled peripheral, Natal will launch at the back end of this year. In the same keynotes, it read, "Scheduled to be available in holiday season 2010, 'Project Natal' is only the most recent example of Microsoft's work creating natural user interfaces." It's also been revealed that a particular hardware component of Natal has been dropped in favour of a software-based solution, which should help ensure that the price of the device remains below £50 on launch.
