TechNews - GeForce GTX 285 Tested - tech
(hx) 01:20 PM CET - Jan,25 2009 - Post a comment / read (3)
  • Nvidia GeForce GTX 285 Tested - There are no surprises with the GTX 285 - It delivers the 10% increase in performance commensurate with its higher clockspeeds in most games. However, we find it rather disappointing that Nvidia used a smaller heatsink, causing temperatures to remain as high as they were on the GTX 280. Another area in which the GTX 285 falls short is power consumption, which remains nearly as high as before.
  • F.E.A.R. 2: Project Origin Demo - Benchmarks - check it out
  • CUDA from NVIDIA - Turbo-Charging High Performance - To understand CUDA, you must first know what GPGPU is. Simply put, it is the technique in which the GPU is employed to handle and perform computations that were previously handled only by the CPU. As detailed in our previous article, there are many advantages to doing so, chief amongst which is speed, but unfortunately, getting the GPU to handle tasks traditionally performed by the CPU isn't quite so simple.
  • Core i7 920 overclocking guide - X-bit labs have published Core i7 920 overclocking guide and high definition PC experience: graphics cards. vs. HD video playback
  • Seagate releases fixed firmware fix for Barracuda 7200.11s - Good news! Barracuda 7200.11 owners can now download a new firmware fix that (hopefully) won't brick their drives.
  • Should Notebooks Come With Higher Quality Built-In Cameras? - The problem is that adding a camera with better lens and better sensor increases the cost of the computer. But, honestly, if you use a lot videoconferencing programs like Skype, wouldn’t you be willing to pay a little bit more to have a laptop with a better camera?
  • Multi-touch support released for Android (unofficial) - It's still in the proof-of-concept phase, but the load does include a multi-touch version of Android's excellent browser.
  • Conficker Worm's Next Act Concerns Experts - Researchers still have no clear idea what the hackers plan to do with the collection of computers they've compromised with "Downadup." Downadup, also called "Conficker," has infected an estimated 6% of PCs worldwide
  • iWork '09 trojan infects 20,000 pirates - This new Trojan Horse can be found in pirated copies of Apple's iWork '09 application suite, which has been downloaded over 20,000 times, according to Intego's numbers. When installing an infected pirated copy of iWork 09, an extra iWorkServices package is installed; this installation begins as soon as the user launches the iWork 09 installer.
  • Criminals Using Do Not Call List - Are you getting an abnormal amount of calls after putting your number on the Do-Not-Call list?
  • New Push Action Sequence Online - A new clip has surfaced showing some of the action of Push.
  • Gears of War Movie Details - Live Free Or Die Hard director Len Wiseman is helming the Gears movie and co-writing it with Fast & Furious scribe Chris Morgan - He said the movie will be "Basically a harder edged Lord Of The Rings."
  • Stallone At 62 - Yeah, Stallone is 62. Look at him. Behold him. Worship him. Dude is getting in prime shape for his upcoming film 'The Expendables'.
  • Hemi Challenger Vs Lamborgini (video) - check it out
  • Why do Freeways Come to a Stop? (pic) - This explains your slow commutes lately: How low sun creates a traffic 'shockwave' :-)
  • Marisa Miller in FHM Magazine - Marisa Miller continues her beautiful model career with a cover on FHM Magazine.

Seagate firmware: Let me download that fix to my hard drive. Oh wait that's right I can't see my hard drive now!

Well, the more complicated tech gets, the more likely it is something huge is going to be broken.
