It's a question you may have asked yourself several times if you ever tried to play games like Shadowrun or Gears of War. These games are Games for Windows - Live enabled. If you want access to the full range of online features, you have to play for Xbox Live. While console gamers are used to this, it's an odd structure to press on PC gamers.Why does a gold account for Games for Windows - Live, the membership level required for full access, still cost money? The chaps over at PC.IGN have asked Kevin Unangst, Global Director for Games for Windows: PC to PC multiplayer is free. It's absolutely free. There are features where we draw the line. For enhanced matchmaking or cross-platform play, you need to be a Gold subscriber. And a lot of those folks were Xbox users that we knew had Gold accounts, they didn't pay anything extra.

Looking at the new philosophy of how we're going to approach building the best PC service, I think you can expect us to revisit [asking the question] are there things that people pay for on the PC? Well, they pay for game downloads. They're happy to do that. Maybe advertising is the way to go. But we had to do the plumbing and then we're going to figure those things out.

I'm talking about buying a game. That may be the only thing PC users will pay for. These are the things we're examining and you can expect us, if we need to change the way our structure's got to be, we'll change that.

But we play console games on the PC, so we should pay console XBox live prices :lol: Face it guys, the PC is morphing into a console whether you like it or not -Gates has got the whole thing sussed out . PC= Personal Console :wink:
