Colin McRae: DIRT Demo - demo
(hx) 07:46 AM EDT - May,24 2007 - Post a comment / read (3)
Codemasters has released a playable demo (local mirror) for Colin McRae: DIRT, allowing you to try out the next installment of the series which will be released on 15th June across all PAL territories for the Xbox 360 and PC, and later this year for the PlayStation 3. The demo gives you 3 tracks and 3 race types to try out. Firstly there's the point-to-point, against-the-clock action that's a hallmark of the series. The demo pits you and your Mitsubishi Lancer Evo IX against a testing Italian rally stage. This mode is also playable multiplayer. Secondly, test your nerve in off-road racing as you race against 9 fearsome AI drivers in a CORR class 1 buggy packing 650bhp. Finally, take on the rally legend himself, Colin McRae, in a Subaru Impreza - the race is on a twisting tarmac crossover track in Germany. The 834MB demo can also be found on 3DGamers, FileFront, GH, WP.

Well, well, well. The major change over the last games is the graphics. This demo is absolutely loaded with every possible effect and then some. The car models are very nicely detailed, though not perfectly accurate. The sound is good especially the buggy's V8, it sounds supercharged but I'm not sure if it is. The game plays well on low settings while looking good. I tried ultra mode @1680x1050 and it completely shat itself on my 7800GTX, 2gb ram, 3500+. Was getting less than 1FPS lol. The gameplay is just as arcadey as any other Colin McCrae game and as such keeps me from buying it. Overall I thought it was a very good improvement on the series even it plays identically. The menu system is really annoying though. Clearly not made for PC.

Cool graphcs / nice car damage & objects. Blur is a bit much i would buy this but the cars seem to lite which total feels like crap.
Ran fine @ 1024 x 768 med - 4 x x1950xtx 4600 x2 3 gig.
