Lost Planet PC Demo - demo
(hx) 04:28 AM EDT - May,16 2007 - Post a comment / read (11)
As promised, Capcom has released a playable demo for Lost Planet: Extreme Condition, allowing you to try out the PC version of this sci-fi action shooter scheduled to be released for PC in June 2007. The demo will let you play through two levels: the Akrid hive and the pirate fortress, the same levels from the demo for the Xbox 360 version. If you're on Windows Vista, you will need the DirectX 10 version (local mirror). For XP users, grab the DirectX 9 version (local mirror).

Another mirrors (DX9 version): 3D Downloads,,, FileFront, FileShack,, GH, GameSpot, Internode Games Network and nZone.

Another mirrors (DX10 version): 3D Downloads,,, FileFront, FileShack,, GH, GameSpot, Internode Games Network, and nZone.

In related news, the chaps at Legit Reviews have benchmarked the DirectX 10 demo on GeForce 8800 GTX and Radeon HD 2900 XT. Not only does the Radeon HD display rendering artifacts, but its frame rate is less than half that of the GeForce in all tests.

@ Milly

d3dx9_33.dll and xinput1_3.dll

Didn't check it out myself, but I guess that's what you need.

Downloading that file and putting it in system32 made it work

heres an alternative download link for anyone else

I think it's interesting that they've released 2 versions for 2 different versions of DirectX. Maybe I'm the only one that finds this interesting that they are doing it, and not many, if any other developers are?

They are just trying to cover all their bases to maximise sales, I'm sure they will do the same with the final release.

Well of course, but I wonder how much extra work that had to put into it, to get a version of the game that is dx10.

I wonder how much superior is the DX10 version. Any astonishing difference?
Is it anything like switching from dx8 to dx9 in Stalker?

few issues with dx9 and dx10 versions of these demos.

dx10 version vista freezes after 4min of play, (getting out of walker)
dx9 version had to force a restart same place, brought me to BSOD screen.

and from what i seen in both versions, this is a vanilla FPS for the xbox and has no right to be put on pc, the game is just to easy and just to plane for a PC fps.

for xbox well this is a perfect game.

We were going to write-up a quick apples-to-apples comparison of the Lost Planet Demo in DX9 mode and DX10 mode on the ATI Radeon HD 2900 XT and GeForce 8800 GTS 640 MB for fun. However, we encountered major bugs with the HD 2900 XT right now in DX10 mode with all driver sets available, it is not rendering everything in the game, snow is missing, textures are corrupt, effects are missing, so an apples-to-apples comparison is impossible. DirectX 9 mode worked fine with no glitches though. From the performance I saw, on average, the HD 2900 XT was slower with Anti-Aliasing enabled in DX9 mode compared to the 8800 GTS. Without AA enabled however the game was a few average frames per second faster than the GeForce 8800 GTS in DX9.

We will have to wait for ATI to release a new driver set that fixes the problems in this game before we can make a full DX10 evaluation, so take this as a quick and dirty comparison for now. Comparing the 2900 XT and 8800 series with this game demo at this time in DX10 is just not the responsible thing to do.

Installed this today. Not impressed. Runs like a slug in DX9. It set my grfx to 1280 x 720. Med quality, no AA, 4x AF. Game is just plain boring and runs really slow, choppy. I have an Athlon 64 3700+, NVidia 7900GT (512) 2 GB RAM, win XP. Not bothering until the final game comes out - or a better optimised demo. Just frustrating and a waste of time. The only game which would make me upgrade a the moment, is Crysis - or maybe GRAW 2 (coming soon!).
