  • AMD Athlon64 X2 5200+ vs. Intel Core 2 Duo E6400 CPU -  The Intel Core 2 Duo E6400 is very well priced at around $220 US. It comes clocked at 2.13GHz and features the 2MB L2 cache. Amazingly the 5200+ now costs just $220 US, this processor is clocked at 2.60GHz and also features a 2MB L2 cache. So now the real question is for around $220 US which processor presents itself as the best value solution?
  • TSMC May Produce AMD Fusion Processor - Two teams are currently working on AMD next generation Fusion processor which is expected to combine the CPU and graphics processor unit on one die.
  • Kingston HyperX & OCZ FlexXLC DDR2-800MHz memory  - The OCZ FlexXLC PC 6400 CAS-4 looks fantastic, but to some its looks may seem somewhat over the top. It may look fancy but this 140g RAM oozes quality (it's over 3.5x heavier than a stick of Kingston) and this is the only factory-fitted watercooled memory available.
  • More ATi RV630 Cards Details - It is based on 65nm process, supports 2nd gen. Unified Shader, DX10, SM 4.0, 128-bit memory interface, Dual HDCP engine. There are 3 variants; GDDR4, GDDR3 and GDDR2 codenamed Kohinoor, Orloff and Sefadu respectively.
  • AMD to further open CrossFire support? - This so-called "Open Multi-GPU Chipset Platform" initiative could bring CrossFire support to motherboards with Nvidia, SiS, and VIA chipsets
  • Sub-$150 Graphics: Sapphire Radeon X1950 GT - Sure, the X1950 GT isn't quite as fast as the original Radeon X1900 GT, but this can easily be made up with a little bit of overclocking of the graphics core.
  • Adtron launches 160GB solid-state disk - Adtron's A25FB solid-state disk looks pretty competitive on the performance front - the company quotes a sustained read transfer rate of up to 65MB/s and a sustained write transfer rate as high as 55MB/s.

  • Symantec Releases Norton 360 - Symantec today announced the availability of Norton 360, a solution that combines antivirus, antispyware, firewall, intrusion protection, anti-phishing, backup and tune-up, eliminating the need to purchase and manage multiple products. I think the title of this article should be Norton renames Norton SystemWorks to Norton 360. It's exactly the same list of features. This is an obvious marketing ploy :-)
  • Sony Announces Cheaper Blu-ray Player - The BDP-S300 will cost $599, yet will have the same capabilities as the $999 BDP-S1 Sony is currently selling.

  • Sony Comments On PAL Backwards Compatibility - The controversy over the lack of backwards compatibility on PAL PS3s is picking up and recent comments from Sony executives aren’t helping the situation. We've had two statements now, one from SCEE and one from SCE Australia, and both go out of their way to emphasize that you won't need your PS2 games because of what the PS3 can do. That doesn't sound like a commitment to backwards compatibility, it sounds like they're covering their asses. In other news, Sony announces the pricing for their first party title Sony PS3 launch line-up. Pricing will be set at €59.99 (£39.99, AUD 99.95, NZ 109.95). First party games include Motorstorm and Resistance: Fall of Man. No big surprise here.
  • First Apple iPhone commercial - Apple did reserve an ad spot for the iPhone at the Oscars at $1.7 million. The ad was pretty cool showcasing 28 actors from different eras, saying hello on the phone, followed by an image of the iPhone, finishing with the text "Coming in June". BTW the iPhone might not be exclusive to Cingular.
  • T-Mobile Bans Others' Apps On Their Phones  - T-Mobile has recently changed their policies and now tell their customers with appropriate data plans and with Java-Micro-App-capable T-Mobile phones: no third-party network applications. You can, of course, still use their incredibly clunky and crippled built-in WAP browsers, but GoogleMaps and OperaMini are left high and dry.

  • 2008 Golf Variant (Jetta Wagon) revealed - The new station wagon will launch with a choice of two gasoline and two diesel engines underhood. The topline petrol-drinker gets the 1.4L TFSI "Twincharger" that's good for 140 horses.
  • Lockheed's F-22 Raptor Gets Zapped by IDL - When the group of Raptors crossed over the IDL, all of their computer systems crashed. Everything from fuel subsystems, to navigation and partial communications were completely taken offline. WOW!

I can see for those just going to upgrade this is quite a decision, but I got a 4600+ processor here and it's likely to take me quite a bit further down the road. If anything I have a gfx card bottleneck that can be slightly improved just throwing in a $90 7600 GT and going SLI. With 2 x16 slots it's pretty rocking with SLI. I think if I went/go SLI then I think all my slowdown I get in games with high details would likely vanish but my current solution is working great. It's going to be interesting because it appears my next cpu upgrade would likely be a quad-core...Hehehe...wonder what the prices of those will be in 1.5-2years?

Why would anyone want 800MHz ram when there is in excess of 1GHz avail today.. Most motherboards state or just support faster. My ram is currently running at 997/998MHz right now...and what's it matter what it looks like? it's barely visible when installed on the mobo....I don't get it. Weird thrills for everyone I guess..
