Half-Life 2: Episode Two Details - briefly

The latest issue of PC Gamer (August 2006) features a tasty little article on the next episode in the Half-Life 2 universe. A forum post on the Steampowered boards reveals a handful of tidbits from the article:

- Gravity gun will get new functionality
- Alyx is alive
- Vortigaunts will be more fleshed out
- More details about GMan will be revealed
- New vehicle will be introduced made by some guys in the woods. Will serve as enemy rammer =P
- You will cover the same amount of locales as in hl2 and the new locales will have a much more realistic feel to them since they are based off real locations (missile silo, mine shaft, etc.)
- Eli and Kleiner have set up base in the missile silo and you have to get the packet to them
- We'll see the UBER and most difficult physics puzzle to date in episode 2
- New weapon known as Strider buster
- Strider and Hunter now has a weak spot *could change*
-Big battlefield-esque combat engagements with lots of enemies and allies fighting. Woods provide plenty of cover
- OH! And new yet-to-be-announced multiplayer game will ship with episode two...might it be TF2 set during the 7 Hour War?

The article mentions a Spring 2007 release date, but this has been debunked by Valve's own Doug Lombardi in a response to 1up.com. The release is still slated for a Holiday 2006 release, assuming all goes according to plan. (thanks CSNation)

I hope this one will be longer and more spaced out. The last 2 were so short and so... claustrophobic.

I also hope that this one will have a lot more playable enjoyment.
A new added functionality for the grav gun sounds remotely interesting... i guess it will have something to do with the uber puzzle. Hah.

Alyx being alive... that little 'fact' ruins the story for me. I mean in episode one she was rumored to be alive... and then she was and was a rather dull addition to the gameplay... and with the cliffhanging end of her fate we're now told she survives. Where’s the pizzazz?

Alyx was dull. Alyx is a dull character. She’s the Jar-Jar-Binks of the HL2 universe. Only hormone-enraged teenagers find her ‘interesting’.

I mean... if she died it would be somewhat more interesting. I don't want to see Vortigaunts reviving Alyx and then Alyx becoming their faithful ally showing Gordon how they’re a peaceful race only trying to survive. :shock:

It's just baaah.

New gun is worthless, the new vehicle seems dull and with these new spectacular based-on-actual-locations locations make my hopes for wide area combat somewhat nonexistent.

I just know I'll end up running away from a swarm of gun swingin' bastards into a seemingly-vast missile silo where I’ll end up running through hallways using my newly modded grav-gun and a newly discovered "Strider buster" against a swarm of scripted entities that pose no actual threat to me :(

But that's just me. :P

I'll play it. I guess. I just hope they don’t disappoint me with this time.
