Kuju's PS3 Game Demonstrated - console
(hx) 03:47 PM CET - Feb,08 2006 - Post a comment / read (4)
At an event held yesterday at the UK embassy in Tokyo, Kuju Entertainment (Battalion Wars makers) demonstrated Redwood Falls, a first-person shooter being designed for the PS3.
Creative director Tancred Dyke-Wells shared a demo video clip of the new title at the event. The clip showed what appeared to be an enemy creature being blasted with gunfire. The enemy body reacted realistically to the fire, with positional damage leaving open wounds that exposed detailed innards, right down to the bones. With enough damage, body parts started falling off. Instead of collapsing to the ground from the beating, though, the enemy's body regenerated itself, returning to original form.

Speaking with Japanese game site Famitsu.com, Wells noted that the point of the demonstration was to show some off the technology that Kuju has developed. He added that the demo could have gone further, with detailed recreations of internal organs, although this might have taken things too far.

Wells would not disclose solid details on Redwood Falls, citing that a publisher has yet to be announced, and the game could end up changing. The theme of the game, he revealed, is not "destruction," but "regeneration." He finished off with a particularly confusing comment: "in this game, the cells of your enemies have individual AI.

Soldier of Fortune was one of my favorite FPS games because of the damage zones. Nothing quite beat taking a .45 to the back of someones head and see their face disappear.

So, this would be something I'd like to see more of in games. The internal organ thing is interesting too, I wonder if he was suggesting you could score internal organ damage and so realistically drop people depending on where you hit them.

Nice touches but I think if and when the game came out I'd be hard pushed to get a PS3 just for that. If it proves popular every PC fps will do the same, if only Nvidia and ATi started putting physics processors on their cards too!
