Call of Duty 2 server boycott? - briefly

It looks like the Call of Duty 2 community is very pissed off with the developer - Infinity Ward and are planning a boycott by "mass server shutdowns of all Call of Duty games at a time of our choosing" (thanks Alistair Russell)

The statement should include the following:
1. When will you include an Anti-Cheat system for COD2?
2. When you you release your 1st patch for COD2?
3. What will it include?
4. What other plans have you for the support of the Call of Duty Games?
5. What will you do to ensure this situation does not arise again?

Failure to comply with this very simple request will result in the following action:

We will actively encourage ALL Clans, Leagues, Ladders, Players, Admins and server providers to enforce a series of 24hr mass server shutdowns of all Call of duty games at a time of our choosing.

Don't take this lightly, word spreads, people won't buy a broken toy. This has never been done before and do you really want to go down as the first and only companies to have it's client/fan base take such drastic measures in order to simply be given some regular information about a product, the choice is yours alone.

WE WILL NOT BE IGNORED ANY LONGER.

Too right. I wish I had a server running now just so I could close it down. :)

I hope they stick with it and pull it off, I'd be surprised if it generates any more than a press release from Activision though.

End of the day IW can only do what they can do and they've proven in the past that they are not capable of punching out a stream of fast patches. Thats when they weren't supporting an X360 release (did they actually develope the x360 version?).

Hey if you're happy playing what is essentially CoD V1.00 with new graphics IW have obviously found their market. Personally I'd say you're in denial after pumping up on the game so much.

I ran a CoD 1 server and didn't appreciate the constant need to go to spec and watch players suspected of cheating. When punkbuster arrived those occasions we're greatly reduced.

When I played CoD 1 I got used to the weapon tweaks, balancing, nurfing introduced with every single patch. Now I'll have to do that all over again.

When I got CoD:UO I thought great, here's all the stuff they said they was going to patch into CoD when it first came out. I forgave them charging me for it because it was pretty damn fun. Now I'll be waiting on the announcement for the expansion pack.

To release a sequel and not learn from your past mistakes (the expansion pack, I'll give, is debatable) is a disgusting abuse of trust. IW didn't make changes people have taken exception too, they just pulled V1 CoD scripts and tagged them onto the new <cough> engine.

I hope this gets a lot of press and forces IW to work for their money or watch their CoD franchise sink like MOH did.

I've personally never seen such an uproar in a community before, I hope it forces IW to really pull their finger out. The Singleplayer is great anyways though... still sticking with F.E.A.R. and Civ4 for my multiplayer fix!

Valve brought me days of joy with HL1 and 2, they'll bring me even more days of joy in the future. I wish I could hug and thank every emploee in Valve :) I like COD1 and 2, not to the same degree as HL or FEAR or else, but thank you IW for them too. Great games! Still, the lack of support is a strange move.

As I said, I am VERY MUCH enjoying COD 2. Thank you. I don't know what cheats people are talking about cuz I always manage 4-1 ratio's. I think people just can't play a real shooter.

Props are like what barbies are for girls. HL2 doesn't have anything else. CS as usual is all HL2 without CS HL2 is nothing. I know why hl2 is addictive, it's got a rocket, so it can make the worst player a better player. Must be the attraction for these people. Again, girly weapon.. Tch tch tch.

How do cheats existing for CoD2 relate to your ratio? The point was the lack of AC encourages people to try and use cheats. The lack of AC means someone with rcon needs to spec players suspected of cheating, suspicions being higher when there isn't anticheat. Sorry but I'd rather be playing the game than droping to spec for 5-10 minutes to see if someone is cheating.

Not quite sure what your point is in the second paragraph. I think its an attempt to say anyone who disagrees with you is a girl (subconcious admission?). People probably like CS:S because erm, A LOT of people played CS. I somehow don't think having a rocket gun is top on their list of reasons to like a game.

Fact is IW have said squat about updates and thats hardly accecptable when there are problems that need to be addressed. Valve have at least a channel to update their customers even if they let them down on occasion.

Is there much cheating in CoD2? You bet there is. Plenty of it. Way too much of it. The lack of anti-cheater technology has caused the game to become inundated with cheaters in record time. The game has been out a month, and already it's swamped with cheaters. Consequently, I do not bother playing CoD2 anymore, and will not unless some type of AC technology is added. I won't buy the mission pack either, unless it includes AC out of the box.

This is a lesson to all of us, and proof of something that I have been hawking about for years:

Games are full of cheater sissies. If you do not do something to stop them, the game will become undesirable for playing.

It is indeed a filthy misuse of customers' trust to make a game with cramped maps unworthy of much multiplayer fun, then to EXPECT them to "repurchase" the game in the form of a mission pack in order to have anti-cheater technology, and to have sensible multiplayer which includes gametypes other than CTF or the old, tired, and nowadays worthless DM or TDM. Why asnyone plays DM or TDM nowadays is beyond understanding. Why it is even included in games anymore is even less understandable. Perhaps it indicates a desire of game makers to make a game as cheaply as possible and as fast of a buck as possible, at our expense.

But then to push the knife in deeper, they leave out anti-cheater protection. In my mind, this is nothing more than extortion. They left out AC technology as a selling point for the mission pack. This is an example of truly unethical business practices. Can you imagine a visit to a car dealership under such practices:

"Sir, did you want your new car to have seats and a steering wheel? If so, you need to buy the Sports Package to get them. It's price is only equal to the car itself. What a deal eh!"

I will, and I suggest that others from now forward check to see if the game they are considering buying includes AC technology right out of the box. If it does not, do not buy it. Naturally, many games do not include it, but this sends a powerful message to unscrupulous game makers: That we do not want your games if you do not make a serious effort to keep it playable so that we get our money's worth from your product.

I've heard that before, many times. It's always empty. Not the 4-1 part, because that's a bit exaggerated. I often rank No. 1, seldom less than No. 5 or 6 in a busy server in CoDUO when I play the map tourney from the start, but 4-1 is part reality, part fantasy. A consistent 4-1 would give you a score 2-3 times higher than most highly skilled players ...and that just does not happen without illegal assists. It just doesn't.

Now unless you are camping with a sniper rifle and never go afoot into the combat, and therefore end up making fewer kills than most of the players on the server, 4-1 isn't going to happen consistently for anyone. It might for 15 minutes under the right circumstances, but it won't for the map tourney, that much is certain. otherwise you'd have a score of 200 where most skilled players have scores of 70. We've all seen that too. But then, we also know how that's possible too. :roll:

Nonetheless, when someone says "I don't know what cheaters you're talking about." I can only assume one of two possibilities for such a comment:

1. They are a cheater.
2. They are not experienced enough or bright enough to tell that the guy that keeps headshooting them from 40 meters with the first 3 bullets from his SMG, without fail, is using something other than skill.

Wat I dont get is that y the hell does the developer allow cheat codes in the first place. And if ppl are so mad at them in the very first month of the games release you wudnt expect the game to do very well.

A bit of a simplistic outlook you took there, but no, the problem is that they never included PunkBuster or stuff that can prevent hooks and the usual exploitive aimbot super human rubbish that is associated with FPS games.
It has very little to do with the 'cheat codes' that the developers have left in the game :)

Why should any CoD2 player provide proof to one individual when you have entire clans of 60+ members agreeing with the situation? Instead of being outspoken here, you should really post your request and concerns on the IW forum; you're more likely going to get the kind of proof you're asking for.

Its about CoD2, not Valve and their game series. VAC2 is created and maintained by Valve for Valve.

I take it back there is a cheat. Whoppe, wont stop me from playing. Obviously the cheat is so little in circulation(get this, a european is selling it for 25 pounds). Guess I'm just used to playing with cheaters. I played in HL long enough to know you can't defeat em just got to live with em. Live with it. COD 2 is such a good game I just didn't care. I have 8 sites now with links to the aimbot and 2 that are selling it. My conversation with one of the programmers.

Me: Dude, there's people crying that there is an aimbot in COD2 and _ isn't telling me there is one, as a matter of fact the pussy is ignoring me. Come on man, let me know. I play this game now, not that POS HL2. Is there or isn't there a cheat for COD2. I just posted on ggmania there isn't.

I don't think you understand. I know the guys who write the cheats. The idiots selling the cheats stole the cheat off their site and for the LAZY that don't go find it for themselves they go buy it. Private written cheats.. LOL!! Whatever. If that's what people think by paying for cheats they are getting something others aren't.. Well that's their problem. A laughable one at that.

I go and test the cheats privately on my own server so I can be accustomed to how it works, find the subtlties. So I turn it on, my friend turns it on and we note the movement characteristics, or gun movements such that we are familiar with it when we are playing in game. Just like I know how or who has an aimbot in HL2. You don't get to be the best acting like a Church ass kisser saying I wont touch it, cuz YOU lose. ALL the best players check out the cheats because by knowing how they work is the only way you can advance ahead of them.

But when a cheat gets too rampant and the developer like VALVE doesn't give a rats ass and is too much of a bunch of Aholes to inform their community there "is" cheats still floating around such as the Aimbot and Wallhack. I just don't bother with the game. In COD2 the cheat is not RAMPANT or I certainly haven't been owned yet to even think there was. That's why I didn't think there was an aimbot. Firstly, I usually informed with screenshots from my friends or, I receive it in my email or I really start noticing people are acting weird in game. But in COD2, I haven't noticed that which is odd. But makes sense. The aimbot and wallhack has only been available for just over a week and it's not overly available because it's only a 'work in progress' version.

Anyhow, I don't need to lecture you on what I do on my own server or how I know or get info on the cheats. There is an aimbot for COD2 and I play lots of places and I'm in 2 COD 2 clans. We have not seen the cheat or suspected anyone of using them. Your whining and your petition is going nowhere. Infinity Ward is working with PB to get it implemented and it's just 15 year olds that are impatient are having little sucky fits because they are getting owned and now have a vehicle to blame their lack of skills on.

Hahaha, check the forums. Going nowhere? Nowhere = As in your assumption with little logic by measuring and thinking about the magnitude its at. Look from the brightside what it can bring. Whining? There was a petition about PB before the game was launched.

And you are sure that they are going with PB? Got an link on that? Well, if the cheats are public, then PB will most certainly pick em up and fish the cheaters in. I just hope that more server admins use the AMBL.

I dont expect them to do an miracle work. So buy releasing their cheats publicly they might be stopped, and probably will(depends on if PB got hold of it). If the game is using PB.

Here's the reality.

We know there are cheats thanks, thats why people want an AC solution.
We know PB is not unbeatable but it does catch and hardware ban idiots who "try" the cheats out.
People who pay or otherwise obtain a unique cheat which is harder to ban publicly will still have to be monitored by an admin and banned manually.
Guess what, we all know this because we read public forums.

Ok, so you know the guys who made the aimbot for CoD2. Why do you know them? Why do you have links to 8 sites that are distributing it?

And you are wrong, you can defeat cheat users if you are skilled. I did it for 3 years in Quake2. There was nobody I could not beat in that game, and ambots were rampant in that game. OK, bragging a bit, but it's true that you can defeat aimbots. Especially at closer range. Aimbots are highly effective at distance, but not as good at close range.

Nonsence. You are probably not the best, but even if you were, you don't need to install and test cheats to combat them. All you have to do is either play exceedingly well against them, knowing they likely have the cheat, or play on another server or not play the game at all.

Yes, cheating in CoD2 IS rampant right now. If PB is released for it, the cheating will go down dramatically. No, it won't dissapear, but once PB figures out how a cheat is skirting them, they will re-write PB, and then the cheaters skirt it again, and then PB rewrites. It's a circle. That's how it works. PB has done a lot to help keep cheating down in CoDUO, for example.

Here's a tip: Sometimes an entire clan uses a particular cheat. Sometimes. One out of so many clans is nothing more than cheater sissies. Not all of them, but some are.

For what its worth I signed the petition too, it can't hurt.

And on the subject of cheaters perhaps we should look at Casinos. Where cheaters still exist despit millions of dollars worth of investment. Do they just give up and go "oh well, lets just live with it" of course not, they certainly don't open a second casino without at least the same measures either. Yet for some reason we're expected to do so with CoD2.

Somewhere in there is a point. :)
