Tuesday Reading - briefly
(hx) 02:06 PM CEST - Aug,16 2005 - Post a comment / read (2)
My UPS died last night with a loud click, so I simply have to buy a new UPS as soon as possible.

Here's some stuff:
  • The Increasing Cost of Gaming -  Tom Manelli of PCWorld asks the question "Would you pay $600 for a video card?"
  • The Pain With Patches - The folks over at Tom's Hardware have written an article called "Pain With Patches", which talks about how games are often released in an unfinished form, with developers relying on the ability to fix problems with future patches.
  • Full Metal Keyboard - Japanese company Interworld Electronics has released an all-stainless-steel keyboard (images) that’s apparently dustproof and waterproof.
  • Army speeds high-tech tools to soldiers - The equipment included a number of remote-controlled devices for seeing around corners or over the next ridge. For instance, the Marcbot (multifunction agile remote-controlled robot) is a small, four-wheel vehicle--about the size of a large Tonka truck--that carries a video camera to let soldiers scan terrain for improvised explosive devices.
  • Galvanize! (Flash-game) - A great flash game set to the latest Chemical Brothers album! (thanks Chad Robertson)

Well, I might be a idiot to buy into ATI again, but I got a X800 XL just shy of $200 Cdn. The day I spend $600 is the day I got see a shrink. As far as I'm concerned nVidia and ATI can blow me if they think I'm stupid enough to pay that kind of cost, especially when I know the cards cost a mere $100 if that to slap together. But I do get a good laugh when someone goes around gloating they did pay $600 for their video card.. Raise your index finger, at the same time, stretch ur thumb out to the side and put it on ur forehead. If you did it right, it's a L for Loser. You got a strange set of priorities to wager $600 for a video card to play games, imo.

be happy that there are people out there who have money to spend on those cards cuz if they didn't nvidia and ati would be out of business. If they didn't release the cards at that cost then people would do the same thing they do now, wait till its cheaper. So they purposely jack up the price high enough so that people will think that the standard is $200ish for a good card. Luckly they dont lower the prices until they find games that will no longer run at full settings and etc.
