148 Sierra employees in Bellevue lose jobs - briefly

- Post a comment Sierra On-Line, the gaming company its founders brought to the Northwest in 1993 to be closer to the competition, is being scaled back with some parts of its operation moving back to California. Vivendi Universal Publishing, which acquired Sierra On-Line in 1999 from Cendant Software, announced yesterday that it was reducing staff size by 43 percent, cutting 245 jobs, including 148 in Sierra's Bellevue office.
About 20 positions will move from Bellevue to VU Interactive Publishing's Los Angeles headquarters. The remaining 97 positions eliminated yesterday were from Sierra's Dynamix division in Eugene, which will be closed.The development of the game Tribes, which took place at Dynamix, will move to Bellevue.
"It's not for financial reasons," said Craig Sinel, who handles the company's public relations. "It's purely to streamline the division's operating efficiencies, and move the nondevelopment function to Los Angeles. The studio will continue looking after game products." [more] |
