100GB Xbox360 HDD Coming? - console
(hx) 08:52 PM CEST - Oct,19 2006 - Post a comment / read (1)
At the recent X06 Event in Korea, Microsoft apparently announced a new 100GB HDD for the Xbox360. It takes a while to load, but if you look at the last image on the page, you can clearly see the HDD marked 100GB. There is no confirmation yet from Microsoft about this product nor a price point. Microsoft's 20 GB hard drive for the Xbox 360 currently sells separately for $99.95. It seems that MS is trying to keep pace with everything Sony does.

In totaly unrelated news, IGN has some hands on time with the Playstation 3's media functionality. From the looks of it they have already one upped the XBox 360:
The PS3 is capable of more than just Blu-Ray playback. It's also capable of playing back video directly from the hard disk. Impress was able to play a 1920 x 1080 MPEG2 from hard disk. It's unclear at this point if users will be able to play back VC-1 and H.264 encoded files from the hard disk, although these high powered codecs are, of course, playable from Blu-Ray discs.
Update: Unfortunately, MS has completely debunked the story and crushed our hopes in the process:
Yes, about two and a half thousand people sent to me a link to that, in which one sees a photographed powerpoint slide, featuring a non removable disk on which someone stuck 100 GB in an Arial font. Come on, you know Microsoft presentations. How many times have you been to GC? Would this company announce a product in such a ragged manner? Quote: No large non removable disk is announced.

Unless that hard drive is solid-state (which I doubt). 100$ for a 20 gig hard drive is bullshit.
