I hate sites like that tweak site, I just scanned it and found quite a few that are either 'NOT' tweaks or things that will mess up your Windows more than improve it. Some are just half arsed tips. Like the DSL one that says to map an IP of 192.xxx to your DSL ethernet card. Why 192.xxx??? How about 169.xxx? The proper way and to avoid conflicts as you know MOST everyone uses 192.xxx. The trick to this is first boot up normally, wait for the system to assign you an IP address on your Ethernet card connected to your DSL, then you will see it assigns an internal ip of 169.xxx, change this ip to Static. Done, never touch it again, bootups will be faster.
Half these are half baked and hardly bordering on tweaks and a good amount of them will do nothing but cause you other issues. Be careful when using these tweaks and if you are uncertain, Google it. This guy who wrote this just merely stoled tweaks from other sites with little care as to whether they are effective tweaks or even problem creating tweaks..
- Don't mess with DLL timeouts.
- Disable automatic sensing, BAD thing. Lots of cards work better when they autosense and it can hose your connection. Seen it too many times. 3com cards even have problems autosensing. If you got a low budget card, don't bother changing it from default.
- Be very careful what processes you kill. Event Logs does not affect system performance and is unneccessary tweak(if you can call it that) and provide 0 speed increase.
- If you have mediocre memory, don't even bother to overclock it. nVidia includes an app called nTune, use that and check to see as it ups your clocks if your system reboots. If it reboots early into the tests, don't even bother to overclock your memory. Also there is a stress test from nVidia and you can use that to determine your capabilities.
- Disable DHCP with DSL. Not a good idea, especially if your provider provides you with an IP. This is a mixed tweak, what it is really for is setting a static IP for your DSL card (internally) again, it's cuz he ripped these tweaks from other sites without giving credit where credit is due.
- Disable 8.3 file names, bad thing, can cause you problems with lots of other software. It's not even really a tweak in my mind.
- If by default Windows doesnt enable write-caching on your drive it's likely for a reason, research that you are able to do this, don't just turn it on unless you want a severe system crash
If anyone wants to tweak, I'd advise you go to something that has been around since XP has.. A site where people give their comments and experiences and a place where they guy updates his tweaks regularly. www.tweakxp.com. This guy who did this list might be nice etc for what he has done but he's taken no care to research any of his tweaks and I see a bunch where it could affect your overall systems performance.
The title is Right because this supposed tweaker guy is a Beginner. |

It looks like G80 is turning out to be annother FX case.
BTW, xxxx gave precise explanations on those "tweaks". Don't do it if you don't understand exactly what it means. Once you're smart enough to tweak your system you'll know it and you won't be using any tweakers or tweak-sites. Until then, don't mess woth your system. |
