| Since Midway recently joined the "In-Game Ad" camp, I wonder what effect that'll have on gameplay or immersion... ei. You can destroy the environment except for the McDonalds poster on the wall, etc. I can't begin to explain how revolting the idea of ads in game is to me, lets just say I hope theres a killer back lash and they wise up. Could you imagine it getting to the point where you have to watch a commercial in-between levels? I'd freak. |

Videogames are a massive medium.
I'm not sure if I’m right, but videogames conquer TV and film market combined.
It's only wise that they'd start with ads. I wouldn't mind seeing ads in games, or commercials in-between levels. As long as they relate to the gamer. Like an ad for the next upcoming game from the industry. Or an ad for the latest shiny keyboard. Y'know? Yeah, if we saw ads for micky d's burger combo then we'd get pissed. We'd all get pissed. Except for the hungry fatties who lack imagination as for what to get for lunch. But for someone like midway or any other "In-Game Ad" company, the extra revenue could bring in better coding, better... content. All that ‘better’ stuff. I’m pretty sure getting CYF and JW wasn’t dirt cheap.
It could also spoil the company. But, it would take years for it to happen. If they use product placement in games they don't want god-awful publicity of the game, else they won't get more chances to do so and in the end get less money.
I for one am glad to see real ads in games. Some companies lack imagination in creating a fake poster for a fake brand of cigarettes.
Game’s lookin’ good. Let’s hope it plays just as good. |
