For most everything, Black Friday is nothing but a scam and an excuse to blow money. There's no real deals here you wont get any other time this year.

Small crowd for receivers I am sure. I decommissioned mine to the basement. I use a sound bar now with an hdmi fully compliant switch. All cost way less than that receiver.

they perform different tasks...I doubt that any good sounding sound bar costs less than 600$. Cheap ones that I have heard..well..I'd rather just buy some Genius 2.1 speakers for 60$.

Besides, different tasks, different function that they are meant to perform. AVR's are multimedia centers, not just big boxes that output signal to TV and take sound from TV and play it on your speakers. This particular one even has wi-fi, zoning, quality parts, smart remote etc. and it's also a DAC (sound card) great headphones output (can even support up to 70ohms headphones) tons of control for speakers, even a calibration mode for EQ by using a mic to set responses and frequencies to nulify dead zones and minimize overlaps.
Soo much more than a sound bar.

Then again, it's not meant to compete with soundbar, it's a different piece of equipment. You could attach sound bar to it, it would probably sound better with it, idk, didn't try. I am cheap on most stuff but I spend what I can, and don't regret, on speakers and sound. My Subwoofer is worth ~400$ alone. Don't expect me to show respect to sound coming from chepish sounbars Smile No offense please. Once you go bellow 40Hz there is no coming back Wink

edit:
You are right about market not being to big for AVRs these days. Everyone listens to shitty dynamic compressed mp3/4, they are mostly ok with WEB quality of movies (ie. NetFlix versus BlueRay/Imax), people love shitty iphone headphones and even worse "Dr.Dre" Cans for 500$ that sound worse than those cheap iPhone in-ear buds.

Soundbars are good enough for consoles, I agree. Compact size, easy wiring and cheap.

I love down-firing drivers - less directional sound.
