In response to a Twitter question regarding framerates on next-gen consoles, John Carmack tweeted that he believes there will still be a lot of games that only run at 30 fps. Who says we all play on slow laggy TV's? Besides you can play PC on more or less ALL modern TV's. Also when your talking LCD or plasma it becomes a different topic altogether.
When talking about plasmas, the 600hz (or 840hz on Pioneer plasmas) refer to the subfield drive. 600hz means the display is processing 10 sub-pictures per frame, while 840hz means 14 sub-pictures per frame. What this allows the display to do is to keep the full 1920 x 1080 resolution while the picture moves at 60fps.
You don't get lag like an LCD panel. PC gaming is gorgeous but naturally darker due to the CRT like qualities of plasma.
So carmack is tarring all TVs with the same brush and once again spells out when you are quoted on the net, do some research first!

I am glad John Carmack does not decide these things.
His opinion in this matter is worth exactly 2 cents.
