Do we need an 'optimized' driver for every game now?
I guess I will be sticking with the generic WHQL drivers. |

If you don't like it, don't install it.
Some people will complain about anything. |

Anything can be wrong.
NVidia has been loosing its edge in the software department for a while now, period. Driver update is needed for a game to run properly? Either the game is not coded properly, or, the driver. Since NVidia issued the update, we know who issued the wrong code. End of story. |

Yea when a game like Battlefield 3 comes out to and it jumps a gap no other companies have made like new destruction and new frost bite engine then yes a driver for that is nice.
Do you think they would have released it if it was not needed?
I know back in the day you waited for ever for updates and now they pump them out rather fast. I think its wonderful but like the man said above don't use it but just remember its there if you Change your mind... |

How could they test functionality and playtest the game on PC without using an existing driver already or a custom from nvidia already.
Just sayin. |

They do. When adding new features to an engine, or even getting creative with the way the engine renders the game, companies can expose issues in the driver (especially if their devs are thinking outside of the box and using clever tricks for speed). They report this to driver developer who then has to fix and QA the new driver so it usually lands just after the game release. This is the compatibility update they mention.
From the other side when nvidia do that testing they may see coding methods in the game engine where they can optimise the driver to help their engine run faster. This is the optimisation they speak of.
Of course you have the obligatory "SLI profiles don't work properly" which nVidia gave been guilty of for some time now, yet they won't let you download them separately.
It's the old gun and armor problem in driver/game form. Invent a better bullet (engine) that pokes holes in your armor (driver) you have to update your driver to withstand the poking. |
