As promised, EA has released a playable PC demo (dirct link) of Need for Speed: SHIFT, allowing you to try out its racing sequel. The demo includes two tracks and five cars. Mirrors: Exp.de, Videogamer.com.

Well I tried it. Thoughts:

-was easier to play with keyboard than my analogue game-pad which works perfectly in grid and dirt and really all the other new and existing games.

-controls require a huge amount of tweaking before you can get a decent feel for the car. I was unable to achieve this, and apparently from reading some comments on the net, this game works almost exclusively with a steering wheel like the G25.

-the graphics are excellent but they bog down on my system (c2d, 4gb ram, 8800gt 512mb)

-you can disable the crappy videos by renaming them in the movies directory of your game install folder. Except you need to leave the track fly-through videos or else the game gets stuck on the loading screen before a race.
