Elite: Dangerous has been recently released, however according to a number of fans that had access to the beta versions of this sim space game, it appears that the final version has been slightly downgraded. As we can see, some environmental effects are missing from the final version, while the textures themselve

This game is going to suck, regardless of texture quality.
Their engine is broken by design and they require online play.
Two showstoppers in one game. |

x:rebirth was worse. Not an excuse but still, Elite will fill at least 200 hrs for the buck. |

| I bought elite and I'm very happy with my purchase. It will hold me over until Toxikk with no problem, and possibly all the way until Star Citizen is stable. |

| Looks like both Global Illumination and Anti Aliasing are turned off in the first screen. |

Actually, I am not going to play it at all and I doubt it will be cracked since it's online only game. |

I doubt they'll make it online only in the end - it won't sell then; they don't have a huge fanbase anymore. |

it's already done. Game is released. They want to stop it from being pirated with keeping some data on their servers. They think people pirate because that way they don't have to pay and by making the game online only people who want to play the game will buy it. Such a narrow minded boxed in mindset...
People wont pay for it because they either:
a) can't afford it
b) would rather buy something else
if anything, pirating the game means more people will play it, those who like it might actually buy it someday, some will praise the game online or around the net and get more people interested in the game, hence, help the sales even when the person praising the game pirated it.
but this concept seem to elude and evade western capitalist minds even though CD Project proved it right with making witcher games without any protection. Pirates also rate the games online. And look at the The Witcher public meta scores...Does that not help sell the game? |

Well, it may be online only until someone reverses it and sets up a private server.
So true. |

Not only are they two different stations but they are also different resolutions (1080 vs 928) so one will be clearer. Not all stations have so much fog/smoke in them.
Online-only is nothing to do with DRM or anti-piracy. The commodity prices, ship and module availability, missions and just about everything else is run from the servers. That isn't counting Stellar Forge either with generates the procedural universe. The reason is so they can tweak things in realtime and injects things like events. For example during beta there was a capital ship in one system in the runup to a war they triggered in the system at the end of beta.
Having played since the beginning of premium beta I see no evidence they have downgraded anything, in fact it has got prettier. |

having played elite and elite frontier, I can tell you that all of the above mentioned reasons for "server stuff" is pure bullshit. Internet didn't even exist back then and all that stuff was in those games, well mostly in Frontier. There are plethora of other space games that have that stuff in offline mode, and even more stuff in game Like X2 and X3.
You can believe their propaganda all you want, I don't. When they want to change something they can just simply release an update, like everyone else does. Events can be implemented and randomized throughout the game and I am 99.9% sure that that is just what they did but that code is on server. As for tweaking, same thing as content: PATCH! |

I have a whole different theory about all this online nonsense.
I think they'd want it on the servers because their universe is not ready.
I'm sure they have only a few systems and they'll populate the rest time goes by. IMHO, this is how they managed to get away from failing the deadline. |
