Looks like the dedicated servers to be available for Modern Warfare 3 will only permit unranked play. Call Of Duty enthusiasts will have to settle for P2P match making if they wish to get their ranking fix. Robert Bowling had this to say on the subject via his twitter feed:

I'm lost. Do they mean pay to play or peer to peer? Both options are bad decisions regardless. If it's peer to peer why even offer dedicated servers for unranked? Makes no sense to me.

I guess that means more host migration & disconnects during the ranked play
Good job Guys, Seems it would be easier to have ranked play on the dedicated servers only not the p2p games.

No playing is free after you buy the game of course.
You might can "rent" yourself a dedicated server but whats the point if its not ranked right...
