Intel Could Unveil First Discrete 10 nm GPUs in mid-2020 - tech
(hx) 10:20 AM CEST - Oct,18 2019 - Post a comment / read (2)
According to the sources close to DigiTimes, Intel will unveil its first discrete 10 nm graphics cards named "Xe" very soon, with the first wave of Xe GPUs expected to arrive some time in 2020. Said to launch mid year, around July or August, Intel will start selling initial Xe GPU models of the long awaited product to consumers, in hope of gaining a share in the massive market using GPU for acceleration of all kinds of tasks.

Perhaps one of the most interesting notes DigiTimes reported is that "... Intel's GPUs have already received support from the upstream supply chain and has already been integrated into Intel's CPUs to be used in the datacenter and AI fields.", meaning that AIB partners already have access to first 10 nm graphics chips that are ready for system integration. First generation of Xe graphics cards will cover almost whole GPU market, including PC, datacenter, and AI applications where NVIDIA currently holds the top spot.

Google Stadia Controller Won't Support Wireless Play at Launch - briefly
(hx) 08:07 AM CEST - Oct,18 2019 - Post a comment / read (1)
Google announced that Stadia is officially launching on November 19th, and revealed a slew of more details. The company also revealed that "wireless play" on the Stadia Controller will only work with the Chromecast Ultra at launch. The game streaming service’s only piece of first-party hardware is a Controller that features Stadia-specific shortcuts and Wi-Fi. Google touts how that accessory’s direct connectivity to Stadia instances in the cloud allows for the lowest latency gaming experience. Yesterday’s “Everything You Need To Know Before Launch” video had the following disclaimer about Stadia Controller’s wireless play:
At launch, wireless play with the Stadia Controller is only available on TV using a Chromecast Ultra
For several months, a Google FAQ noted how “to play on your TV you will need to use the Stadia Controller and Google Chromecast Ultra.” As a result, many people’s initial read on the newest qualifier was that a Stadia Controller + Chromecast is the only way to play on big screens.

While that’s correct for TVs, there is also a broader limitation according to a Googler on r/Stadia yesterday:

As for wireless gameplay, this is limited to Chromecast Ultra. When plugged in via USB cable, the Stadia Controller acts as a standard USB HID controller and may work on other platforms depending on the game and setup.
In the video above, you can also see the mobile device and laptop used being connected by a cable, but of course, with everything being white and bright, it’s not entirely noticeable. The Google Stadia controller was also confirmed to support Bluetooth-audio, but this will only be supported post-launch. It does seem like the controller will eventually have the capabilities to connect wirelessly, it’s just a shame that those getting the Founders Edition on November 19 won’t be able to make use of full wireless support with the Stadia controller. Until then, the Founder Edition’s of Google Stadia will launch on November 19 with Red Dead Redemption 2 being slated to launch on that same day. Stadia is to launch fully next year.

The Early Access phase for Chernobylite is a go and we were able to play-test this version and compare it with its alpha build. First things first; Chernobylite looks and runs better than its alpha version. However, the game is still unable to hit 4K/60fps on either High or Ultra settings on the NVIDIA RTX2080Ti.

Get Observer and Alan Wake's American Nightmare for free - freegame
(hx) 11:10 PM CEST - Oct,17 2019 - Post a comment / read (2)
The Epic Games Store is giving away not one, but two creepy games in time for Halloween - both Alan Wake's American Nightmare and Observer are available for free from October 17 to October 24. The psychological horror games will replace Surviving Mars and its DLC as the free weekly content offered in the Epic Games Store.

Alan Wake's American Nightmare is a spin-off of the classic thriller Alan Wake. Much of the game is structured around an episode of Night Springs, an in-universe show that's an obvious homage to The Twilight Zone. Alan Wake's friend is asleep in a motel room while the show plays on the TV, and a narrator explains the action as it plays out. In the episode, Alan is trying to chase down his evil doppelganger, Mr. Scratch, but gets stuck in a time loop and must keep repeating his actions.

Observer is a cyberpunk horror game from Layers of Fear developer Bloober Team that stars Rutger Hauer (you know, the guy from Blade Runner). It's set in a futuristic Poland, where you play as Daniel Lazarski, a detective who can hack people's brain implants in order to interrogate them. When Daniel receives an unexpected call from his estranged son, a fragmented, trippy mystery lays itself out before you.

After that another Free Game Collection will take its place, offering Layers of Fear and Q.U.B.E. 2 at no charge.

League of Legends: Wild Rift announced - console
    (hx) 10:49 PM CEST - Oct,16 2019 - Post a comment
Riot Games has announced League of Legends: Wild Rift, a new five-versus-five multiplayer online battle arena game due out for iOS, Android, and consoles in 2020. Pre-registration is available now via Google Play.
When is League of Legends: Wild Rift coming out in my region? Which platforms?

For mobile, we’re coming to iOS and Android, and you can pre-register on the Google Play Store right now. For console… we’ll have more info on that a bit later in 2020. Stay tuned by using the box above.

Is Wild Rift cross-platform between PC and mobile / console?

No—the games differ in a few ways, but both include the core five-versus-five MOBA gameplay you expect from League of Legends. Adding cross-platform between League PC and Wild Rift would require compromises of competitive integrity, and we want to make sure the gameplay feels fair and fun no matter which platform you’re most comfortable on.

During certain big moments throughout the year, we’ll try to coordinate event themes and releases between League PC and Wild Rift, and we’re exploring the possibility of cross-platform play between mobile and console, but nothing locked in yet.

What’s the difference between this and League on PC?

So basically, we rebuilt the game from scratch (like… the whole thing). Refreshed models, animations, game systems, and more—but keeping true to the core League of Legends gameplay you already know. We didn’t want to just port League on PC 1:1—we want to make sure Wild Rift feels like it was designed for new platforms, and use that opportunity to make a bunch of improvements to the game. While you won’t get your unlocks from League PC, you’ll get some cool rewards for the time you’ve spent in the PC version. More to come on that in 2020!

What are the minimum mobile specs?

This isn’t set in stone, but we’re aiming to make the game as accessible as possible across as many devices as we can. Here are our current targets for mobile specs:

For Android, we’re hoping to have compatibility to the equivalent to a Samsung Galaxy A7: 1GB RAM, Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 processor, and Adreno 306 GPU.

For iOS devices, we’re aiming to have Wild Rift run on iPhone 5S and later.

Kingdom Under Fire II Spellsword class trailer - movie
    (hx) 10:34 PM CEST - Oct,16 2019 - Post a comment
Publisher Gameforge and developer Blueside have released a new set of trailers for Kingdom Under Fire II introducing the Spellsword, one of five character classes featured in the game.
With her mastery of ice and lightning magic, the Spellsword is a powerful adversary who shouldn’t be underestimated!

A relative of the Dark Elves, the Spellsword combines her magical runes to produce ever new attacks or to heal herself, compensating for her relatively shallow health pool. On the battlefield she darts and jabs with agility, wielding sword and scepter.

She was the fruit of a forbidden experiment that harnessed the power of the gods themselves to combine the blood of the Ancient Elves and the present-day Dark Elves. After barely escaping the appalling research, a Dark Elf with fair skin meandered through the world to live cast out from both the Elves’ and the Dark Elves’ societies. She found refuge with the Azilia Knights in a place where she could avoid the watchful eyes of possible pursuers.
Kingdom Under Fire II is due out for PC in North America and Europe through multiple digital platforms in November. Pre-orders are currently available via the game’s official website.

World of Tanks enCore Ray Tracing Demo - demo
    (hx) 10:15 PM CEST - Oct,16 2019 - Post a comment
The latest enCore RT demo gives World of Tanks players a taste of ray tracing, specifically shadows, without requiring NVIDIA RTX graphics cards. In fact, this implementation was made through Intel's Embree library (part of OneAPI) and is compatible with all DirectX 11 graphics cards. According to Wargaming, the performance of enCore RT will be as good or better as the ray tracing implementations we've seen so far in games that support NVIDIA RTX, while you can expect the quality to be very close. However, it should be noted that the developers themselves have admitted ray traced shadows will only be cast from tanks as the performance would have otherwise suffered.

Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines 2 Delayed - briefly
    (hx) 07:57 PM CEST - Oct,16 2019 - Post a comment / read (2)
Hardsuit Labs has just announced via a blog post that Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 will not release in March 2020, and will be delayed. And although the game is still planned for a 2020 release, there isn’t currently any ETA. Hardsuit Labs claimed that it values quality over making the Q1 launch window. Therefore, and instead of releasing a rushed product, the team decided to delay the game.
To all fans of Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines 2

For the last three and a half years, we’ve worked hard to bring you a worthy successor to Bloodlines 1. To us, that meant not only making good on the ambitions of this remarkable game, but also a duty to ensure we would not repeat its mistakes. Today, we have to tell you that we need some more time to get you the game you’ve been waiting for. Although Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines 2 will still launch in 2020, we have decided to value quality over making the Q1 launch window.

There are some things we wanted to hit under all circumstances when we set out to follow in Bloodlines’ footsteps: A deep, branching storyline; fascinating and amazingly acted characters; the rich universe of the World of Darkness. We firmly believe that we’re on the right track to get you all of this.

On the flip side, there’s the responsibility to avoid some of the issues that plagued the first game, which was famously launched too early. Over the last few months, it became clear that to stick to our original date would risk repeating that mistake. We won’t do that. In the end, everyone working on this game wants to offer you the best Bloodlines 2 we can.

This hasn’t been an easy- nor our first choice. Throughout 2019 we have been improving our processes and growing our teams, however it soon became clear that this alone won’t allow us to deliver the quality we want at the date we promised.

Your feedback was invaluable in this. It helped us give the proper weight to what we saw, as well. We’d like to thank you, and hope you’ll support us in the decision that came from it.

Many of us from Hardsuit Labs will be in Berlin for PDXCON. For those of you going, we look forward to seeing you there! We will be sharing insights into the development of Bloodlines 2 along with other steps we’ve taken to strengthen our development team to realize our ambitions for Bloodlines 2.

For those of you who won’t be there, we will be sharing more about this during the PDXCON Announcement stream on Saturday the 19th. We are also opening up a Reddit thread to answer any of your questions in the Bloodlines stream on the following Sunday.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Arcade Fan Remaster - briefly

Indie developer Rafael has released a new version of his remaster for the arcade version of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is a side-scrolling beat-’em-up that came out on the arcades in 1989. As you may have guessed, this game never came out on the PC. However, PC gamers can now experience it thanks to this unofficial remaster.
