Red Dead Redemption 2 PC Update to Fix Stuttering - briefly
(hx) 10:30 PM CET - Nov,13 2019 - Post a comment
Rockstar Games released a statement on its official Twitter account detailing the whole ordeal and how the company plans to fix the issues moving forward. Split into four pages, the first makes it clear that Rockstar Games has been working on improvements to Red Dead Redemption 2 “as quickly as possible.” In fact, it is stated that they have found and fixed some of these issues and they have already been implemented to the game.

The second page of the statement iterates that Rockstar Games is aware that there is a “small number” of PC players who are still having stuttering issues. This may be caused by specific combinations of Nvidia graphics drivers, Nvidia GPU cards and certain CPUs. As such, an update will release to address the stuttering issue, as well as other fixes. However, Rockstar Games is currently working Nvidia to further address this issue with a future update that will hopefully fix stuttering altogether.

The third and fourth pages are essentially apologies for the game’s troubling launch. If you do have problems, you can go to the support page to see if any of the troubleshooting methods there help. To make up for the rocky launch of the Red Dead Redemption 2 PC release, anyone who plays the game on PC this week will receive a care package for Red Dead Online. This will include the Prieto Poncho, and other provisions and ammo. More details on the complimentary reward will come at a later date.

Crytek has just released a free ray tracing benchmark based on the ray tracing demo of the same name, which was made available as a video at GDC 2019. As you may have guessed, this tech demo is using CRYENGINE and works on both AMD and NVIDIA graphics cards. PC gamers can download the benchmark from the CRYENGINE Marketplace. (hx) 10:16 PM CET - Nov,13 2019 - Post a comment
PUBG Corporation has released a brand new update for PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds. According to the release notes, PUBG Update 5.2 introduces a new spike trap, a navigational Way Point system, some balancing updates on Vikendi, and new ways to test out content with PUBG Labs. In this update, players will gain access to the new Spike Trap tool. Additionally, this patch brings a number of improvements and changes to Vikendi. These changes further develop the snowy island into a sniper’s playground. Moreover, the update reduces the windows from many buildings for more defensible sniper positions, and removes some buildings and debris for more sightlines in small cities. It also cleans up walls, trees, and rocks in high traffic areas for better maneuverability in vehicles.
The Sims 4 gets a huge November 12th update - patch
(hx) 10:15 PM CET - Nov,13 2019 - Post a comment
There’s a new Sims 4 PC update available via Origin. If you have auto updates enabled in “Application Settings”, the game will auto-update once you open Origin. If you have auto-updates disabled, you will need to manually update by clicking the game in your library. To ensure your game is up to date, check the game version found in Documents > EA > The Sims 4 > GameVersion.txt. Your game should now read: PC / Mac If you’ve updated but it’s not showing the correct version, delete the GameVersion.txt file, restart, and all will be corrected.

The November 12th update brings a few new Holiday items available for you in Create A Sim. Moreover, it brings a new Multi Story Column feature to help you build tall columns for a grand entrance or interior. It’s also worth noting that this update adds a UI Scaling setting in the options panel. In addition, a New Main Menu Message is now available on load to easily help you find the latest and greatest content from The Sims 4. Maxis has also updated the Holiday Celebration Pack with some new children and toddler clothing. Moreover, the Hip Hop Radio Station is now available for everyone. Naturally, this update also fixes numerous bugs and glitches that the game’s fanbase has reported.

Apple Will Release a VR Headset by 2022 / AR Glasses by 2023 - briefly
(hx) 04:05 PM CET - Nov,13 2019 - Post a comment / read (2)
In a report from Bloomberg, Apple plans to release a VR gaming headset in 2022 followed by AR glasses in 2023. The report mentions that Apple is aiming to release a VR and AR headset in 2021 and 2022 which will let users play games, watch videos, and attend virtual meetings. Apple planned on having the technology ready to go by this year with a release in 2020, but the date got pushed back to 2023 at the earliest. Additionally, Apple is aiming to have the VR headset out sometime in 2022 with the AR glasses out in 2023. Apple has over 1,000 engineers working on VR and AR technology, with some of them coming from NASA and game developers. The team is lead by vice president Mike Rockwell and the team features members from Apple’s gaming division, software engineering and manufacturing, and iPhone hardware. Bloomberg also mentions that engineering teams for the iPhone and iPad are working on a new operating system called “rOS,” which will let current Apple devices work on the VR headset and AR glasses. Additionally, Apple is working on a new 3D sensor that’ll be more advanced than the current Face ID system. This new sensor would be at the core of Apple’s AR push.

Recently, Apple has made a bigger presence in the gaming industry. The company launched Apple Arcade in September, its game subscription service which costs $4.99 a month. Among the games available on the service include Sayonara Wild Hearts, Frogger in Toy Town, and Rayman Mini to name a few. Additionally, players can play games on Apple Arcade with their Dualshock 4 and Xbox One controllers.

Windows 10 Nov 2019 Update 1909 Released - tech
(hx) 10:06 AM CET - Nov,13 2019 - Post a comment
Microsoft late Tuesday released its second major update to Windows 10 for the year, the Windows 10 November 2019 Update (version 1909). This update beats conventions in that is "minor" in comparison to the Windows 10 May 2019 (1903) Update, in that Microsoft didn't change too many under-the-hood components, but updated the operating system's user-interface. For example, the operating system retains the older version's driver model. The Actions Center received several UI updates such as the ability to add items to your agenda directly from the calendar, improved sorting of notifications, improved accessibility of the Start menu, and the ability to use third-party accessibility software from even the Lock screen. The only notable under-the-hood changes concern the scheduler. Windows 10 now gets the ability to address multiple "favored" cores in a multi-core processor. A favored core is a physically superior core that can sustain higher boost clocks for longer.

Microsoft plans to release this feature update as an optional update, which means that it won’t download and install until you manually start the process from the Windows Update settings page. However, if your device is running a version of the Windows 10 that’s nearing the end of life, then eventually version 1909 will install automatically.

You can download the November 2019 ISO files for updating your Windows 10 from the following links:

  • Windows 10 November 2019 Update (64-bit)
  • Windows 10 November 2019 Update (32-bit)

The following new features are being introduced as part of this update.

  • This update will be published to WSUS so that customers can deploy and manage Insider Preview builds alongside their standard ConfigMan/WSUS approach. See this blog post for details.
  • We are offering pre-release support for 19H2 offered to Windows Insider Program for Business (WIP4Biz) customers who face blocking issues that prevent them from feature evaluation or device use. See this article for details.
  • Windows containers require matched host and container version. This restricts customers and limits Windows containers from supporting mixed-version container pod scenarios This update includes 5 fixes to address this and allow the host to run down-level containers on up-level for process (Argon) isolation.
  • A fix to allow OEMs to reduce the inking latency based on the hardware capabilities of their devices rather than being stuck with latency selected on typical hardware configuration by the OS.
  • Key-rolling or Key-rotation feature enables secure rolling of Recovery passwords on MDM managed AAD devices upon on demand request from Microsoft Intune/MDM tools or upon every time recovery password is used to unlock the BitLocker protected drive. This feature will help prevent accidental recovery password disclosure as part of manual BitLocker drive unlock by users.
  • A change to enable third-party digital assistants to voice activate above the Lock screen.
  • You can now quickly create an event straight from the Calendar flyout on the Taskbar. Just select the date and time at the lower right corner of the Taskbar to open the Calendar flyout and pick your desired date and start typing in the text box-you'll now see inline options to set a time and location.
  • The navigation pane on the Start menu now expands when you hover over it with your mouse to better inform where clicking goes.
  • We have added friendly images to show what is meant by "banner" and "Action Center" when adjusting the notifications on apps in order to make these settings more approachable and understandable.
  • Notifications settings under Settings > System > Notifications will now default to sorting notification senders by most recently shown notification, rather than sender name. This makes it easier to find and configure frequent and recent senders. We have also added a setting to turn off playing sound when notifications appear.
  • We now show the options to configure and turn off notifications from an app/website right on the notification, both as a banner and in Action Center.
  • We have added a "Manage notifications" button to the top of Action Center that launches the main "Notifications & actions" Settings page.
  • We have added additional debugging capabilities for newer Intel processors. This is only relevant for hardware manufacturers.
  • We have made general battery life and power efficiency improvements for PCs with certain processors.
  • A CPU may have multiple "favored" cores (logical processors of the highest available scheduling class). To provide better performance and reliability, we have implemented a rotation policy that distributes work more fairly among these favored cores.
  • We have enabled Windows Defender Credential Guard for ARM64 devices for additional protection against credential theft for enterprises deploying ARM64 devices in their organizations.
  • We have enabled the ability for enterprises to supplement the Windows 10 in S Mode policy to allow traditional Win32 (desktop) apps from Microsoft Intune.
  • We're updating the search box in File Explorer to now be powered by Windows Search. This change will help integrate your OneDrive content online with the traditional indexed results.
  • We have added the ability for Narrator and other assistive technologies to read and learn where the FN key is located on keyboards and what state it is in (locked versus unlocked).

Epic Games Acquires Quixel - briefly
(hx) 05:37 PM CET - Nov,12 2019 - Post a comment
Epic Games has officially acquired Quixel, a company founded back in 2011 with the aim to speed up the process of building digital environments by offering creators 3D building blocks for their projects. The main draw of this acquisition is that Epic Games will be bringing Quixel’s library of over 10,000 2D and 3D photogrammetry assets for free to Unreal Engine developers. Quixel has over 100 employees across 6 different countries and their assets are used by companies such as Bungie, Naughty Dog, EA DICE, SEGA, and more. Despite the employees now joining Epic Games, the primary operations center will remain in Sweden. Quixel Megascans is a library featuring a large collection of high-quality scans that can be applied to Unreal Engine projects. The scans can range from vegetation, imperfections, tileable surfaces, and many more. Earlier this year, Quixel showed exactly what the Unreal Engine is capable of using Megascans.

Epic Games will also be bringing Quixel’s Bridge and Mixer toolsets to Unreal Engine developers for free on the same day Megascans goes free. At current, there has not been an official date for when these products will go free. Bridge allows developers to easily manage the assets and send them to any renderers, engines, or DCC (Digital Content Creation). Mixer allows for customization of materials, mixing textures and painting. Tim Sweeney, CEO at Epic Games spoke about the acquisition “By coming together with Quixel to make Megascans free for all use in Unreal Engine, this level of artistry is now available to everyone from triple-A studios to indies.”

Basement - a drug-dealing strategy game is leaving early access! - briefly
(hx) 09:55 PM CET - Nov,11 2019 - Post a comment / read (2)
Basement is a drug-dealing strategy game where you play a scientist who is forced to do illegal stuff in your basement. Actually it’s all about management. You build your own enterprise producing several types of drugs, find the right place to sell them, invite scientists and security, avoid federal agents and build the most effective company. You start in your own basement. Since the police has no interest in a small dealer, you have the chance to grow. Once your expansion becomes noticeable you’ll be allowed to sell at higher rates, get better workers, upgrade your production and access new technologies. But be careful! This growth will attract the cops. With rapid growth, your enterprise will become fragile. If it survives all the troubles it faces, you will become invincible. Otherwise, you will lose money, workers and respect. While your influence in the city shortens, you risk being imprisoned in the end.

Finally a game that represents America correctly :D
Crysis Co-op Announcement - mod&map
(hx) 05:24 PM CET - Nov,11 2019 - Post a comment / read (1)
The new 2019 version of this mod will allow you to play the single-player campaigns of both Crysis and Crysis Warhead in co-op. The mod will also replace Gamespy with Steam. This basically means that it will add support for the Steam master server, so that you no longer have to connect to servers through direct IP addresses and removing the necessity of using VPN software. The downside here is that you’ll need a Steam version of Crysis Warhead, otherwise the mod will not work. Crysis Co-op 2019 will also come with some new gameplay features. For instance, players will be able to revive their fallen comrades via the defibrillator. It will also have new game dataset rules, as well as a compatibility mode. Furthermore, players will be able to select which character to play as through the campaign. The team is currently awaiting for Crytek’s approval to release the Crysis Warhead campaign. Moreover, the team aims to release this new version of the Crysis co-op mod in December 2019.

Diablo 4 will also have Paladin & Amazon at launch - briefly
(hx) 01:07 PM CET - Nov,11 2019 - Post a comment / read (1)
This information comes from a leak about Diablo 4 that surfaced on Reddit four whole months ago. That leak got a lot of things right, like the game’s art style, its classes, its combo system and more.

Hello Heroes of Sanctuary,

I am one of the 1st people who have seen Diablo IV behind closed doors and I know many are eagerly waiting for the details and goodies on what's the next big thing in the Diablo universe/franchise. Obviously I cannot give away my credentials or who I am other than the fact that Diablo IV was finally showcased to some of the employees at Blizzard. Take this for what it is, I don't care if you believe it or not as I have really nothing to gain from this. With that being said - this is what Diablo IV and what will be happening in the near future.

  • Official Title - Diablo IV (No sub title)

  • Camera View and Genre - Isometric MMOARPG

  • No Load Times (except loading in the game for the first time or logging in and out)

  • New sophisticated Engine with a ton of improvements over Diablo III and new functionalities for new gameplay systems and visual design

  • Made for consoles in mind from the get go

  • Art Style is VERY dark, gory/bloody and gritty - think Diablo II days mixed with Dark Souls and Bloodborne but much more modernized obviously. The new engine is able to create atmospheric visuals and dark tones that immerse the players. Picture the world of Sanctuary as if it was in the Dark Souls or Bloodborne universe. Super dark and gothic.

  • Blizzard are happy with the many systems and improvements they've made over the course of Diablo III: Reaper of Souls such as the Kunai Cube, Wardrobe loadouts, Seasonal Journeys, Rifts/G-Rifts and so on.

  • Blizzard learned a lot from their Diablo III and Reaper of Souls mistakes/lessons and used the feedback to create and design new and improved systems for Diablo IV

  • Music is going to harken back to Diablo I and Diablo II. It will feel very very familiar to the old-school Diablo fans but also have it's own unique twist to it and sound that is catered specifically to Diablo IV

  • Blizzard will be treating Diablo IV as a reboot of the franchise. Those who wanted a Diablo II Remake and a brand new Diablo game will be pleased. Basically, it's a combination of both made for the modern era. Best way to think of this is the latest God of War that was released in April for the PlayStation 4 in 2018.

  • Diablo II Remake/Remaster was planned, but they later realized that it would be much better to give the franchise a complete reset and put majority of the fans requests into 1 giant package.

  • The demo we've seen lasted about 20 to 30 minutes. I am not sure if this is the same demo they will be using for Blizzcon later this year or if they have a new one in the works specifically created for the fans and press too see.

  • The demo showcased core elements of Diablo IV such as the Loot, Barbarian Class (a bit of Druid as well), Combat and the most interesting (in my opinion) how it all comes together as an isometric MMO and blends in with a brand new eco-system and creates a next-generation Diablo experience

  • The world of Sanctuary is MUCH MUCH MUCH larger than before due to the game going the MMO route. The space is necessary to accommodate the players.

  • A server will hold around 100 or so people at a time as of now.

  • Tristram will be one of the Hub cities in the game. (This was one the one we saw in the demo) Blizzard has stated there are more hub-cities, but did not show or told us what they are.

  • You can trade items in the game with other players such as gold, basic crafting materials (special crafting materials are soulbound and cannot be sold) and any kind of loot ranging from grey quality and all the way up to rare yellows. Blizzard is not sure yet what to do with Legendary items/weapons yet and if they should be tradeable or not as far as the game's economy goes due to competitive fairness and end-game systems that have a lot of functionalities with the legendary loot.

  • The class that was showcased in great detail to the employees was a Barbarian- signature moves such as whirlwind return and many other favorite skills. Druid was also part of the demo, but for extremely short time and only used as an example for their new combo combat system.

  • Combat system will have combos. You will be able to use a combination of skills in succession to do more damage or create larger area of effect attacks. As a Barbarian you can chain pull into an enemy and then jump over them and then you have a choice of either throwing them into another demon or grabbing them and then pummeling them into the ground with your bare hands or simply stunning the target and then use an execution move to chop their head off. You can ONLY do execution moves when the enemy is near death.

  • The demo showed how a druid player can use the combo system. In the clip the player was able to morph into different animal forms (including wolf and bear) during mid-combat flawlessly without any weird transitions or awkward attack animations using different sets of moves and skills from each of the forms in a matter of seconds. It looked very impressive.

  • The combo system was created to evolve combat for the Diablo franchise. Blizzard wanted to make sure that if they're going dark and gritty, the combat had to be dark and gritty as well.

  • Paladin, Barbarian, Sorcerer, Amazon and Druid are planned for launch with more coming later. Blizzard wants people to feel like this is Diablo II all over again but in a completely new era of the franchise. Blizzard were also debating whether to include the Druid or Necromancer class at launch of Diablo IV. Blizzard decided put the Druid for launch of Diablo IV and Necromancer for later, since the Necromancer was released already for Diablo III.

  • Crafting will return in Diablo IV and will be a very important system and part of the entire game and its economy. If you enjoy crafting in MMOs or in games in general then you are in for a treat according to Blizzard.

  • Blizzard is well aware of games such as Path of Exile, Grim Dawn and Wolcen and their current skill systems. As a matter of fact, they have a whole special team dedicated to playing those games extensively for research and game development purposes. Blizzard are creating something new unique of their own for Diablo IV as far as character progression goes and yes stat allocations are back as well.

  • No word on PvP yet or anything of that sort. However, Blizzard did say that since they're going the MMO route, the PvP factor is kind of important to a lot of players. Although, right now they're strongly focusing on creating a fantastic PvE Diablo experience. They do not want to promise anything in regards to PvP ever since with what happened to PvP in Diablo III only to later disappoint the fans. PvP is something that will be looked at in the future once the game is in a stable place and the playerbase is happy.

  • Diablo IV will be the new era for Diablo and will be a game as a service. New free content patches will come out that will add quality of life changes, new additions, items and so on. Paid expansions are also possible, but right now its still undecided and Blizzard won't know until the game is launched and until they see if its successful or not. They do not want to announce anything that's regarding to paid content until they are 100% sure of their plans and what they will be adding next post-launch.

  • Right now the goal is to get the game ready playable demo for Blizzcon's 2019 and of course all the marketing material as well. After that, it will be preparing for the beta in 2020 and then the release.

  • Release is being debated between late 2020 or early 2021 depending on how things go, but as of now it seems early 2021 is more likely. Will be coming to PC PlayStation 5 and Project Scarlett.
