Free Windows 10 and 11 Backup - tech
(hx) 08:15 PM CET - Jan,27 2025 - Post a comment
In a recent video, the speaker shares how a failure in a customer’s backup system led him to reevaluate his recommendation for backing up Windows computers. Previously, he advocated for using Windows File History, a built-in feature in Windows that is free and straightforward. However, he discovered a significant limitation: Windows File History enforces a 260-character limit for file paths, which caused a complete backup failure for a customer whose employees used lengthy file names. As a result, he recommends transitioning to Cobian Backup, a free program that offers more reliability and flexibility, despite being more complex to set up. The video details the installation and configuration of Cobian Backup, including choosing appropriate backup types, selecting files to back up, scheduling backups, and managing storage. The speaker emphasizes the importance of having external storage for backups and discusses additional forms of data protection, including cloud backups and system snapshots

How China's New AI Model DeepSeek Is Threatening U.S. Dominance - tech
(hx) 09:07 AM CET - Jan,27 2025 - Post a comment / read (1)
A little-known AI lab out of China has ignited panic throughout Silicon Valley after releasing AI models that can outperform America’s best despite being built more cheaply and with less-powerful chips. DeepSeek, as the lab is called, unveiled a free, open-source large-language model in late December that it says took only two months and less than $6 million to build. The new developments have raised alarms on whether America’s global lead in artificial intelligence is shrinking and called into question big tech’s massive spend on building AI models and data centers. In a set of third-party benchmark tests, DeepSeek’s model outperformed Meta’s Llama 3.1, OpenAI’s GPT-4o and Anthropic’s Claude Sonnet 3.5 in accuracy ranging from complex problem-solving to math and coding. CNBC’s Deirdre Bosa has the story. This video also includes Bosa’s full interview with Perplexity CEO Aravind Srinivas.
