Showing people how to self host their own media is harmful, according to YouTube - tech
(hx) 01:17 PM CEST - Jun,07 2025 - Post a comment / read (2)
YouTube has taken down a video from tech creator Jeff Geerling that demonstrated how to use LibreELEC, a lightweight operating system for turning devices into media centers, on a Raspberry Pi 5 for 4K video playback. The video, titled "I replaced my Apple TV—with a Raspberry Pi", originally published in May 2024, was removed in June 2025 under YouTube's "Harmful or dangerous content" policy. According to the violation notice, YouTube claimed the video showed "how to get unauthorized or free access to audio or audiovisual content, software, subscription services, or games that usually require payment." Geerling strongly refuted YouTube's claims. He stated clearly, "I purposefully avoid demonstrating any of the tools that are popularly used to circumvent purchasing movie, TV, and other media content." He also emphasized that his own Network Attached Storage, or NAS, contains only legally acquired content.

Windows 10 Patch Causes Boot Failure With BitLocker - tech
(hx) 06:45 PM CEST - May,21 2025 - Post a comment / read (1)
Microsoft are aware of a known issue on devices with Intel Trusted Execution Technology (TXT) enabled on 10th generation or later Intel vPro processors. On these systems, installing the May 13, 2025, Windows security update (KB5058379) might cause lsass.exe to terminate unexpectedly, triggering an Automatic Repair. On devices with BitLocker enabled, BitLocker requires the input of your BitLocker recovery key to initiate the Automatic Repair.

In the updated post on the Windows Health Dashboard website, Microsoft says that KB5061768 is recommended for those who use affected systems and have not yet deployed KB5058379 (May 2025 security update). It will prevent BitLocker problems from happening.

Enabling bitlocker by default, "what could possibly go wrong"!

After a brief tease in January, Samsung has finally announced the Galaxy S25 Edge, its thinnest flagship phone to date. A titanium body and Corning Gorilla Glass Ceramic 2 help allow the phone to be just 5.8mm thick. The phone naturally has a smaller battery at just 3,900 mAh, but it does have fast wired and wireless charging. The phone otherwise maintains flagship specs from the S25 series, including the top-end Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy chipset, 200 megapixel main camera with OIS, and 12 megapixel ultra-wide camera. Further specs include a 6.7-inch OLED display with QHD+ resolution and 120 Hz refresh, 12 GB of RAM, and IP68 dust and water rating. Color choices include Titanium Silver, Titanium Jetblack and Titanium Icyblue. The phone will be priced starting at $1,099, going on sale May 30. Pre-orders are open now, and include a free upgrade from 256 to 512 GB of storage.

NVIDIA GeForce Game Ready 576.40 WHQL Drivers Released - tech
(hx) 08:01 AM CEST - May,14 2025 - Post a comment
NVIDIA has released the GeForce Game Ready 576.40 WHQL drivers for its graphics cards. These drivers come with optimization for "DOOM: The Dark Ages," and "New World: Aeternum." The drivers also add G-SYNC support for almost a dozen new monitor models, listed below. There is a rather short list of game-specific bug fixes with this release. To begin with, the drivers address random stability issues with "Monster Hunter Wilds." Also addressed is an issue specific to the RTX 50-series "Blackwell" GPUs, where in "Dead Space Remake," the shadows exhibit a random flicker.

Among the general issues fixed with this release is incorrect color saturation observed on RTX 50-series GPUs when the game is being rendered at a resolution lower than the display's native resolution. Another bug specific to the combination of RTX 50-series GPUs with ASUS PG32UQXR/ASUS ROG PG248QP/ASUS ROG PG32UCDM displays that causes these displays to boot to a black screen, has been fixed. A bug that causes certain LG TVs to exhibit a stutter at lower refresh rates with G-SYNC enabled, has been fixed
