AMD Ryzen 9 9900X Benchmarked in Geekbench 6, Beats Intel's Best in Single-Core Score - tech
(hx) 01:36 PM CEST - Jul,08 2024 - Post a comment / read (1)
As AMD prepares to roll out its next-generation Ryzen 9000 series of CPUs based on Zen 5 architecture, we are starting to see some systems being tested by third-party OEMs and system integrators. Today, we have Geekbench 6 scores of the Ryzen 9 9900X CPU, and the 12-core, 24-thread processor that has demonstrated impressive performance gains. Boasting a base clock of 4.4 GHz and a boost clock of up to 5.6 GHz, the CPU features only 120 W TDP, a significant reduction from the previous 170 W of the previous generation. In Geekbench 6 tests, the Ryzen 9 9900X achieved a single-core score of 3,401 and a multicore score of 19,756.

These results place it ahead of Intel's current flagship Core i9-14900KS, which scored 3,189 points in single-core performance. Regarding multicore tasks, the i9-14900K scored 21,890 points, still higher than AMD's upcoming 12-core SKU. The benchmark of AMD's CPU was conducted on an ASUS ROG Crosshair X670E Gene motherboard with 32 GB of DDR5 memory. As anticipation builds for the official release, these early benchmarks suggest that AMD will deliver a compelling product that balances high performance with improved energy efficiency. The top tier models will still carry a 170 W TDP, while some high-end and middle-end SKUs get a TDP reduction like the Ryzen 7 9700X and Ryzen 5 9600X dial down to 65 W, decreased from 105 W in their previous iterations.

Stress tests really show the weakness of these processors. They are very snappy when cold but once they are saturated with heat from a stress test then the clock speeds plummet. Even the x84 variant drops down to clock speed of about 2.2GHz under a full load stress test.

I was just thinking of doing a survey of Gameguru readers' monitors. I don't believe everyone here has 4k :-) I myself have recently switched from classic 27" (1920x80) monitors to 32" (2560×1440) monitors. Specifically, I have an ASUS ROG/PG329Q/32"/IPS/QHD/175Hz/1ms/Black at home and in the office ASUS ROG/XG32VC/31,5"/VA/QHD/170Hz/1ms/Black. The former is IPS straight, the latter is a VA panel curved. I find the IPS panel a bit better in feel. What do you have?

Galaxy S25 Ultra - Samsung's Shocking Design Shift! - tech
(hx) 11:52 PM CEST - Jun,28 2024 - Post a comment / read (1)
Leaks and rumors regarding Samsung's next year's flagship, the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra, have already started to pour in. It was earlier reported that the Galaxy S25 Ultra could get a 16GB RAM model, the first time since the Galaxy S20 Ultra and S21 Ultra. It has also been reported that the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra could come with a 5,000mAh battery with 45W fast charging support, similar to this year's Galaxy S24 Ultra. A few days ago, a leak suggested that three of the four cameras on next year's Galaxy S25 Ultra could see a major upgrade. Now, according to reliable tipster IceUniverse on X, the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra could have a body thickness of 8.4mm. For comparison, the Galaxy S24 Ultra measures 8.6mm, which means that if the leak becomes true, the Galaxy S25 Ultra could be the thinnest Ultra phone since the Note20 Ultra (8.1mm).

Microsoft attempts to steer Windows users away from local accounts - tech
(d@rkfu) 01:04 AM CEST - Jun,25 2024 - Post a comment / read (4)
Like Google, Apple, and other major online providers, Microsoft is willing to play dirty to keep users within its digital ecosystem. The Redmond corporation is now making it difficult for Windows 11 users by removing official instructions on how to convert an online account into a local one.

Microsoft has long tried to push PC users toward an online-only experience, making local account creation increasingly difficult, starting with the Windows installation process. Recently, the company modified the online guide related to Microsoft and local accounts, which now lacks any official instructions on converting a Microsoft account to a local one. Thanks to the Internet Archive's Wayback Machine, the previous version of the guide can still be viewed as it was before the change. Microsoft provided detailed instructions on switching from a Microsoft account to a local account, although the company still recommended an online account for "seamless integration of Microsoft services," enhanced security capabilities, device synchronization, and more.

The newly revised guide now only provides instructions on switching from a local account to a Microsoft account, with the local account-focused section completely removed. Microsoft now claims that an online account offers several benefits over a local account, suggesting that users would be better off changing their previously created offline accounts to the "latest and greatest" computing experience provided by a Microsoft account.

Noctua Finally Did It | NH-D15 G2 Launching, Thermosiphon, & Fans - tech

Noctua is finally launching its Noctua NH-D15 G2 that we've been talking about for years now. The cooler is shipping right now and launching sometime in June or July this year, with new fans coming up in September or October. The Noctua NH-D15 G2's price will be $150 and there will be 3 variations to choose from for that price, named LBC, HBC, and then the general convexity coldplate solution. Noctua has been working on tuning the NF-A14x25 G2 and the cooler coldplate alike, trying to dial against Intel's curvature problems we talked about previously. The company is also working on a thermosiphon which we're told will very likely become a product, but with no current release target or roadmap, and on a Seasonic collaboration PSU.
