Although it has been available for a few years, Viking: War of Clans has been recently released in a browser version. While not the most ground-breaking game to enter the market in recent times, it nonetheless has plenty going for it. The Viking-theme still feels fresh, although there are plenty of Viking-themed titles and online slots games around at the moment. Viking: War of Clans comes from Plarium, who have had similar success with Stormfall: Age of War and Sparta: War of Empires. This game is not unlilke previous ones from the Plarium stable, but offers something a little different.

Plot:
The main goal of Viking: War of Clans it to go about managing, and growing, your own village. Starting off with a small ruined village, your aim is to train your warriors and grow into a legendary Viking (Jarl). As with all good MMOs, the more you play the more the game unfolds before you. Build your clan up from humble beginnings to become the most fearsome in the land. Plan raids, learn new techniques and lead your men to plunder!



Graphics:
The graphics are pretty much top drawer. As the game develops, there is often a lot going happening on screen at any one time and the graphics do not suffer as a result. The attention to detail is pretty commendable. You can see there has been a lot of love put into the game. All in all, top work for a browser based MMO.

Pros:
There is a lot to like about Viking: War of Clans. As mentioned, the graphics are pretty awesome for a game of this genre. Once you establish yourself in the game and have begun to develop your village and clan, things really do take a giant leap forward. However, the biggest draw has to be the amount of customisation that can be done. You can learn new skills, develop your own hero character and basically develop your clan in many different ways.



Cons:
This is very much a slow starter. The early part of the game – rebuilding the village etc. – can only be described as tedious. Essentially, you will be just clicking your mouse over and over again as you build mines, farms and barracks. Give it a couple of hours however, and the game should start offering much more fun and theatrics. It is up to you to decide if the early work was all worth it.

Overall thoughts:
This is pretty much par for the course for Plarium. Viking: War of Clans is not incredibly different in terms of gameplay from their other offerings. The main difference is, of course, the Viking theme, which works well and offers plenty of new scope. Objectively though, this is still good fun and gives your everything you could want from a MMO. Get through the slightly boring early stages and get to the good parts, you may be plundering villages for hours on end.
