Throne of Darkness is an isometric action RPG by Click Entertainment (founded by Doron Gartner and Ben Haas who got their start developing Diablo at Blizzard), that combines Japanese mythology and fast-paced multiplayer mayhem. The game takes place in feudal Japan, where the sneaky demon Haou-Hakaiki Zanshin has managed to possess Kira Tsunayoshi, the Shogun of the realm , turning his kingdom into a land of evil. You'll take command of the loyal samurai retainers of one of four Japanese clans, each of which has a similar goal: to rid the land of the Dark Warlord Zanshin. That mean you have to guide your samurai all across the country, fighting evil, gaining new skills, and finding new and better equipment.

Throne of Darkness features intense single-player campaign, over 80 spells, 7 samurai character types (each with distinct abilities and attributes - Leader, Berserker, Brick , Ninja, Swordsman, Archer and Wizard), more than 12 advanced tactical commands (or "plays") via simple keystrokes, more than a dozen huge environments inhabited by over 30 varieties of creatures, and full multiplayer support for 8 simultaneous players. The game has an innovative multi-character control interface that allows for the simultaneous command of up to four of seven characters (however you directly control just one while the computer handles the others) through a series of tactics, and formations, similarly to Darkstone or real-time setting in Fallout Tactics.
Graphics are very solid (locked at 800x600), characters are detailed, textures are spot on and spell effects are cool, only the graphic palette seemed to be a bit repetitive. Needless to say, Throne of Darkness follows the familiar Diablo gameplay with a ton of mouse-clicking kills, character level ups, and megatons of items to collect. The game's interface may take a while to get into, but still it's one of the best new action/RPG games I have played. Download playable demo (108.5MB).
