Need for Speed: Underground
(hx) 03:39 AM CET - Nov,25 2003

Need for Speed: Underground is pure arcade-style driving game which takes the series away from the original racing theme into the highly publicized illegal street racing scene popularized by movies like The Fast and The Furious and games like the Midnight Club. So, if you're a car lover you want to own and drive ultra-fast - turbocharged - Nitrous-powered - cars, NFS: Underground could be good choice for you. Keep reading to see what you can expect.

NFS: Underground is a lot like it's predecessors. At the beginning of the game you will be able to create an unique driving profile. Once you've adjusted the settings to your preference, you can select one of the following racing modes: Go Underground, Quick race, and Play Online. The Underground mode is basically the main single-player career mode that contains over 101 races on 20 different tracks. You choose the difficulty level of each challenge, obviously, the more difficult challenge you choose, the higher your rewards are when you win each one. The rewards include "Underground" ranking on the charts, magazine covers and also new parts and body kits for your cars. To make gameplay more various, the game includes a number of different race types - essentially you have classical Race, Drift, and Drag. The classical Race is actually broken up into a number of styles, including Sprint (race from point A to point B), Circuit (multi-lap), and Lap Knockout (cars in last place are booted each lap; last car across the line wins). The Drag races test your reaction time and the Drift races try your ability to slide the back end of the vehicle out around turns. The Undeground mode should keep you busy a couple of hours. For those who wish to get started as soon as possible, there's the quick race option. This particular mode also allows you to participate in circuit, sprint, drag, drift, and lap knockout racing modes. You can also choose a free run mode on any of the unlocked courses and using any of the unlocked vehicles you’ve got.

There's twenty licensed and fully customizable cars available to race, unlike the Midnight Club series which doesn't use "real" cars. In NFS: Underground you'll find a Acura Integra, Dodge Neon, Ford Focus, Honda Civic, Mazda Miata MX5, Mazda RX7, Honda S2000, Toyota Supra, Toyota Celica, VW Golf GTI 2.0L (115HP), and a few more. All the cars are rated in handling, acceleration, and top speed, but I'd say that in practice the cars don't drive all that differently, especially once you've purchased some upgrades in the career mode.

One of the best features of this game is the ability to upgrade your vehicles and customize them before racing. There is a ton of ways to customize your ride with parts to have better performance on the inside, such as the engine, brakes and the all important nitrous oxide boost. There is also a ton of available paint jobs, decals spoilers, bumpers and more for decorative and practical purposes, so you can truly create your own unique racing car.

NFS: Underground also allows you to race up to four players in multiplayer over the Internet (no subscription fees required). In the multiplayer, the PC players can race against PS2 players and vice versa. Unfortunately, NFS: Underground does not support LAN play :( Shame on you EA!

There's no doubt that NFS: Underground is the best looking arcade racing on the PC. All the cars are beautifully rendered and gorgeous to look at. The game also features a pretty dramatic motion-blur effect that you will experience at high speeds.

However, the game does suffer in a few areas. For example, the tracks look too much similar - you'll find yourself taking the same turns and using the same paths but just in a different order. There's no damage model for the cars. Also the missing LAN support is really bad surprise. That's why I cannot rate this impressive arcade racer higher than 82%.

As I stated before, NFS: Underground is an arcade-style racing game that is designed to provide fun. So, if you are looking for a racing simulation that is 100% based on reality, look elsewhere. To my surprise, I find this game very entertaining, especially the drag races rock :) This game is good looking, and very addictive. I'd recommend this game to any arcade racing fan. Download playable demo (220MB).

Minimum system requirements:
Windows 98/ME/2K/XP, Intel Pentium III (or compatible) CPU running at 700Mhz or higher, 32MB DirectX 9 compatible video card (Geforce2 or higher) using a supported chipset*, 128MB RAM (256 MB using Windows 2000 or XP), DirectX compatible sound card, 2 GB HDD space, 8x CD-ROM, Network card for broadband connectivity for MP.

*Supported GFX chipsets: ATI Radeon 7500 or greater, Intel i865, Matrox Parhelia, NVidia geForce2 or greater, SiS Xabre 400

snd: 5/5 - solid, awesome soundtrack with style and variety, nice sound effects - metal-on-metal crash sounds, screeching tire effects
gfx: 5/5 - absolutely gorgeous (though unreal reflections), car models are smooth and impressively detailed, slow-motion crash sequences, dramatic motion-blur effect, no car damage model
playability: 4/5 - addictive arcade racing, deep single player career, easy learning curve, multiplayer only through EA server (No LAN support), repetitive tracks
genre: arcade street racing
platform: PC (available also for PS2, XBox, GC)
release: November 2003
developer: Electronic Arts Black Box
the game is similar to: Midnight Club 2
publisher: Electronic Arts
Very_good
Overall: 82%

is it just me or has the nfs series gotten less and less as each new title releases? didnt nfs ii have like 10 tracks and the last one; nfs ph2 had like 4-6 tracks that you went around both ways, w/ slight variations it just seems that ea has started to care more about their ingame radio rather than about the gameplay itself

NFS Is Crapposted - Nov, 25 2003 - 06:30
NFS 1 and Porsche challenge were the best. This one is crap. The car upgrades dont reflect their performance, no replays and boring tracks.

SlyOneposted - Nov, 25 2003 - 06:41
No replay aprat from the short in game. No LAN (As the review states) MX5 would be the best choice apart from the drag race (motor will blow up) GTR: Is great for the drag race. Customising the vinyl is a bit drawn out. When you trade in your car you carry over the upgrades which defeat the purpose of building a high end car. So keep the MX5 and race all the way. I am up to 95 stages so far and not far to go.

hmm, this gotta be the shittiest NFS ever, and i played em all. The "one city" gets really boring, real fast. it seems that EA Games is trying to dumb down its games for an unknown reason... like someone said, if you take away the grafics you are left with nothing.

Really nice ARCADE!! game. It's so addictive. First i was a little dissapointed by the number of tracks, but if you go 300 miles an hour you actually dont see Shite, so it does not really matters. Best playable whit a force feedback wheel, never seen anything fast like this

So people if you had to choose Midnight Club 2 or NFS: Underground. Which one would you choose? I believe if MC had the upgrading car options(thru points or money), a rank system, and a different A.I. and licensed cars. It would make MFS: Underground look like utter crap

The best EA had to offer in many years. Killer visuals and the audio is awe inspiring. Anyone who abhors it must either have a crappy PC or cant turn a car at all. Its an exhilariting experience not to be missed.

Zeusposted - Nov, 25 2003 - 18:44
although its a little boring that you dont have really different tracks with different day and night times, and you dont have great famous cars like in the other need for speed games, nevertheless its one of the need for speed games, whos career mode really makes me want to play the game all the time, its just really a great feeling when you finish first after being totally concentrated on not making any misstake or hitting anyone. the tuning stuffs are a nice gimmick, but i could live without it, and i also think the drag race is really awesome and fresh.

Zeusposted - Nov, 25 2003 - 18:46
oh and the game runs great on a crappy machine without having to make big compromises on the gfx. athlon 1ghz, geforce2mx

gu357posted - Nov, 25 2003 - 21:52
The games graphic detail is unmatched, there is no one that puts so much environment detail into racing games but EA's nfs series. That is a big reason why they have such a small number of tracks. I bet if EA and Rockstar worked together (though never would happen), we'll get the BEST racing game ever IMO :o

Zeusposted - Nov, 25 2003 - 22:48
@ reset: I almost play games always in 800x600 or even 640x480, but on 800x600 with car details at high, the rest mostly on medium, some at high, it runs without problem. perhaps, no i am sure, there are effects that my card dont support and that i cant see, but what i can see is a great looking game, judging from my card.

Zeusposted - Nov, 25 2003 - 22:50

I think the past few years EA has been honing the art of ripoff-kings on us suckers. Prices have just gone higher and the games get radically discounted after a few months because word gets out the product is crap. I have found less enjoyment less satisfaction with more recient releases than a few years ago. I don't think I am the only one experiencing this. I think EA deliberately releases games that are fairly empty as part of their ripoff stategy. Consider, if I was developing a game I would be adding stuff for mods; car design, tracks etc. all sorts of goodies to encourage a great game experience, but EA blocks off this avenue of game development and so we are left with something that is only a flash in the pan. Really, get something else.

NOTHINGposted - Nov, 26 2003 - 03:26
Was going to pick this one up, but I bought SW:KOTOR. A quick fun driving game that looks graphically impressive. I'll wait till the price drops.

This game was addictive from the start, I played about 12hrs straigh and got major eye strain which forced me to stop for a while. I like the customizable features, its like playing an rpg to get that next level sword or somthing, I'm more into Mopar cars but I don't object to this rice game.

@ Reset - [email protected] U run a 9700Pro an PC800 RAM on a P4 1.4 GHz and wonder why it´s slow? I hope u made a typo with ur CPU or u realy don´t have any clue about hardware. If ur CPU realy is a P4 1.4, it´s simply dosn´t have the raw power to support ur RAM or GC in full scale. My slower PC run´s a P4 2.0 Ghz, 512 MB PC333, 9700Pro and there is no - simply NO - game that doesn´t run smooth on 1024x768. And btw. - turning of AA and FSAA will help too.

theBitch makerposted - Nov, 26 2003 - 10:33
On my 3.06 P4 with a Geforce 4Ti4200 and 512 ram it ran smooth as silt. turning on AF and AA slows it down a bit but the difference is not that visible. I use Quinux AA and 2X AF now.

nice game to play once, i'm almost done with the "go underground" mode. There is not much left of the NFS series. No dashboards, no replays!!! (what's the use of building a great looking car and the only thing you get to see is the back of it?), only one track. When I have all the upgrades i'm gonna tune every car in the game to the max, then i'm gonna uninstall it very quickly because the replay value of the game is very very small.

O dear god what have EA done, this used to be a pure PC game ported to consoles not the otherway around, sheer lazyness, NO LAN!!!! and WTF with Viabration, PC games use FORCE FEEDBACK terminology non of this console bollox, i am gutted with this game. As its a console port the polygon count is at an all time low so it runs at silly resoloutions no problem, p4 2.4,1024mb,GF440MX 64 running it @ 1280x1024x32#75mhz game runs as smooth as a babies bottom.

m00posted - Nov, 27 2003 - 06:17
The game could have been much more than it was. Graphics are good - one of the better DX9 games lately. Drag race is fun for a while. But tracks get boring easily - they are all pieced together from the same old parts/sections. No real difference between the cars or the parts (i.e. Individual car physics suck). As someone mentioned before, the vinyls are way overdone. And yes, the AI cheats (and unless I'm missing something, you can't turn the "catch up" off in underground mode)...

JakeXposted - Nov, 27 2003 - 06:21
This game is crap all it has going for it are shitty visuals. Long live Grand Turismo.. the true 'supe up your car' game. This NFS:U is shit. All you do is race same shitty tracks, and win OH WOW, REVERSE OPTION TRACK! JOY! The upgrades are all locked, and when you do finally get upgrades, does the game get easier? No it gets harder cause you need to control a much faster car and the AI just keeps the same advantage no matter what upgrades you put in it. I mean, why upgrade if its just going to keep the playing field level? I want to kick ass when I add parts onto the car like back in the old days of Grand Turismo, you could go back and whoop guys with your awesome car. NFS is horrible at how the AI is always the same level as you.

maikashposted - Nov, 27 2003 - 14:20
how do i turn off "catchup" ...? i don't think u can....i agree with jakeX....whats the point getting the upgrades when the AI stays the same....no matter how fast u go with or without nitrous the cpu cars are always catching up with u...AI "does" cheat....its a let down...

THE Basherposted - Nov, 27 2003 - 16:10
I wonder don`t all or most arcade games the A.I. always catches up to you in an instant.I think so very much so. Anyways as I said before. I believe if Midnight Club had the upgrading car options(thru points or money), a rank system, and a different A.I. and licensed cars (optional because it a arcade game). It would make NFS: Underground look like utter crap.

Don't forget: this version also doesn't have a rear-view mirror, which is a real pain in the ass. And i really miss the nice panoramic tracks that NFSPU had. This one is always the same dark city center, with a small variation left or right. No LAN, no replays, no rear-view mirror, low-res clunky interface, repetitive tracks. Maybe there are some minor disadvantages over other racing games. But if u just want to drive a car with verry realistic fysics (for a arcade game that is) and feel the adrenaline pump through ur body while rocketing throug traffic at 250+ km/h (after a few hours of gameplay ;-) ) this game is everything u need, the tracks maybe are repetitive but so verry well constructed. Plus it has a highly original drift and drag-race mode wich are lots of fun.

I feel that this is a great game. I haven't had that much fun in a game for ages. For once I get to race to race cars that I might own in my lifetime. Tweaking feature is the best. Music is fabulous, but does get repetitive after playing for a long time. Having said that, I would have prefered a view from inside the car.

i got nfs underground for my ps2. so far its really great. trying to make good turns and doging oncoming traffic at 150mph is a challenge. to make it better, they would need to have more tracks, it is getting repetitive but its great so far.

I dont understand why you people with p4 1.4 ghz are not runnign smooth. dumba$$'s....btw, DX9 is direct X 9 fo the guy who asked. Also the guy who said to show him another game that is as customizeable as this must never have played Gran Turismo. If they would just port it to pc i would never have to buy another driving game again! who has seen the screenshots for GT4? its amazing! this game is cool for now though.

For the ppl asking about the girls: U just have to activate ALL details and : whoop - here they are! :-) Btw @ the guy who said "grafics are only slightly better then MC2" - go buy an DX9 card, go on full details and cry darling. MC2 is nice and fine, but NFS:Us GFX are top notch at the moment. And for the "infinite NOS" guy: That would blow up ur engin, besides spending u a hard time controlling this rocket.

The game is ok, but the following is ANNOYING. Constant Disconnects (3mbs cable), Crashing to desktop, Disconnects not returning you to the room you were in, damn thing sets my gamepad X (Left & Right steering) to the same button as Brake and Gearup. So basically have to reconfig pad each time i load. Also...no command line to skip the intro and the gay hiphop music. Hiphop is not racing music, its too damn slow.

First of all i will give ou an unbiased opinion of this game and also correct what others have posted. there are many gameswhere u can upgrade your car, NFS porche challenge was one. teh game is good but its sucks atteh same time. firstof all EA love to make there games pretty but they lack taking into consideration what teh player might want. such as, why dont i get an option to play arcade style or realistic style, why dont i get teh option to choose damage or no damage, why do i require a direct x 9 card just so i can see a bunch of models on teh thetrack or a starter at teh starting line, imean that doesnt require and special direct x 9 features. i was very disapointed with the lack of these features in the game. not everyone can afford a 300 dollar card. EA are very slack, there games liek others have said do seem to have less tracks with each title, i mean dont release it so early, put soem more effort into it then release it. im surethere are other games out therethat are better than this game, till you play them you shouldnt be saying this game isteh best of its genre. i should givethat minightclub 2 a go, ithink i did but that sucked as well, if it was made by rockstar than that is the one and i would say this is better the cars feal better and teh controls do to. well thats all from me, i get disapointed by game makers every time they release a title. iwill go backand play my half hackedversion of nfs likemy half hackedcheap ass mx card, itseems liek my card is liek this game, upay a lotand recieve very little value from what it is really worth.

guys, I'm planning on choosing one out of 2 games. NFS:U or Midnight Club II. I've seen both reviews from Gameguru. While NFSU received higher mark, 4/5 gameplay versus MCII 5/5 gameplay matters a lot to me. Should I get MCII or NFSU? Or basicly, which one do you enjoy the most between NFSU and MCII? I'm not asking which game provides the best stunning graphics.

scummonkeyposted - Dec, 04 2003 - 19:06
i have a friend who has both, nfs:underground and mcII. he likes mc better because it takes a little more skill. your car explodes if you crash too many times. right now, he doesn't seem like he likes it. it seems like he just want to finsh the game.

I have to say this game is not good. Its pretty cheesy matter of fact. No cockpit view is annoying. Need For Speed High Stakes was more fun than this. This game has no multiplayer because EA hasnt figured out how to make multiplayer codes that work properly with racing games yet. Although i must say The beta online of NFS high stakes wasnt that bad. But heck that was years ago. My opinion of NFS Underground is that this game is for children. It sucks major ass. Wouldnt recommend it to anyone.

NFS Porsche Unleashed & Gran Turismo are the real benchmark for this kind of racing games where u buy cars and tune them up! NFSU has great graphics and lots of tuning options, but lacks of some of the features that made NFS:PU and GT great.

And is to short I just play the game for 2 days.. about 6 hours.. and Its done... I should wait for GT4 or The Fast and Furious.. NFS Underground is a #$#&U%REQ#@!

Porsche unleashed still rocks, need to get it to run properly on my server 2k3 though.

MikeKposted - Dec, 09 2003 - 17:46
NFS_BastardD, I think you're completly off-base telling people that their own observations are stupid. The fact is the game is a great arcade experience with stunning visuals, a huge selection of cars, a decent soundtrack, and a great sound engine. It was really nice to see that the RX7 was modeled really well, along with every other car. I own an 93 FD3S RX7 TT that's midly modded with a streetported engine and a rebuilt tranny, putting down about 300HP(265 at the wheels) so it's always a treat to get to play the same game in a Racing game. The only problem is it's LACKING so many of the things that make a racing game one that you keep coming back to over and over, even AFTER you've beat ent. It's missing KEY features like REPLAY. There's an entire movement on the internet of people who thrive on trying to make some of the best drifting replays in GT1-3. What good is it if you powerslide around a corner, barely missing a truck if you can't watch yourself do it? It's really sad that a simple feature that's been included in practically every racing game made since the PSX. Also, every mod that you do doesn't actually affect your car the way it should. It doesn't matter what brand of intake or wheels you get, they all do the same thing. Plus, you have to play with the childish ghetto "reputation". I mean c'mon...a "rep" is something highschool kids do when they think they're a thug. I don't see any Professional racers like the guys from D1 Drift talking about their "reputations" and those guys are the shiat when it comes to drifting. The GFX are beautiful, but it's the same thing OVER and OVER. NO wonder it's so nice, they've only got one track. NFSPU had TONS of tracks, each one was different, each one was unique and had it's own challenge. This game is only at night-time. What the heck is that about? The physics are very lacking, also..it's almost like you're on rails. Even a horrible crash into a wall allows you to keep your lead. What happened to that great damage model Porsche Unleashed had? You used to be able to hit a wall and see the effects it did on your car, and the physics were affected, too. Not so in NFSU...you can hit a wall going 100mph, and still win the race. That's just gay. All the flashy 2Fast2Furious GFX are for people who have nothing but show cars...I don't see real racers out there pimping Vinyl and huge bodykits that add tons of weight and disrupt their cars airflow dynamics with tons of grills and cutouts and things of that nature. I will add it's really great that there's tons of modding, but it's all really mute since none of the parts really do anything. This game basically has a pretty cover, but absolutely no replay value besides the multiplayer options once you've beaten it. GT3 and NFSPU STILL have me coming back for more. After I'm done with this game, I'm giving it to my nephew...he'll probably beat in about 2 days just like I'm about to do. EA's NFS series has really gone downhill since Porsche Unleashed, which had beautiful replays, and much better physics (even if they were arcade-like). Hot Pursuit 2 sucked because alotta great features that made HP1 great were dropped. The same thing goes for NFSU. It's just too kiddy like, and it's an empty game after you've beaten it. There's nothing really there for me to come back to except a multiplayer experience full of cheaters and people who are 16 and think that "thuggin" is a lifestyle. Blah.

The only thing this game has (in my opinion) is decent graphics and some nice vinyl designs that you can toy around with and make some nice looking cars (including body kits, neons etc etc). That said, everything else it just utter crap...Underground mode is so damn BORING...same sort of race over and over again with the same tracks over and over again, big deal! if you get your thrills off that, then this game is FOR YOU! also some walls contain hidden impact points, like I was stuck on a wall by an AI going around a corner and all of a sudden my car hit nothing and violently spun around then flipped and rolled...I lost that race coz of that AI fag...Einstein explain the physics in that ya fukwit! Coz EA sure can for some gay reason... I don't like the music AT ALL, it's all crap...so I just turn it off. I can't stand all that metal/rock stuff coming through the speakers especially when you want to hear the sound of the engines. The AI in this game are TOO PERFECT! there's no realisum to what they can do like you get some tracks that have those 90 degree turns and when your behind an AI car where you can see them, they seem to go around that corner instantly, someone called it "the AI rubber-band technique". The AI also has SUPER ACCELERATION! by this I mean they seem to have super fast paced cars no matter WHAT YOU BUY OR UPGRADE! mean I've used the SKYLINE with it's acceleration maxed out to the red bar and still the AI gets faster take-off, either that or I get the take-off, but then they come flying past. Sometimes when your behind an AI car and you hit the NOS key, you expect to go flying past them in some huge thrill of speed and adrenaline...DOES NOT HAPPEN! no matter what you do, NOS or fully rigged out v6, they stay infront of you and most likely you will hit an oncoming car or some gay shit like that. Also I have seen that sometimes when they hit walls or your car, they get a boost from it, even if you ram the side of them, they just push past you and leave you behind. BUT with all this said...TURN OFF the CATCH UP feature on a quick race...and the AI sucks shit...they can't do crap and they loose all the time no matter what you do, I have beaten them 40 to 60 seconds ahead of them...it's simply sweet revenge >:) I also find the lack of police quite disturbing, mean this is ILLEGAL RACING we're talking about, and PIGS don't like people doing ILLEGAL things...so you'd expect to see an oinker or 2 raiding your fun. That's what I miss from NFS-HP/HP2. Someone said (in another review) that EA didn't add police coz it might draw attention from younger people and make them do illegal things...firstly you can watch TV and see some dumbassed gangs shooting up some cops, secondly...NFS HP and HP2 already has cops in it...so I see no real reason they didn't add police. Maybe it's because this isn't trademarked as a HP game of sorts...but that wouldn't matter since EA made them anyway. Over-all this game has it's ups and downs just like any other game, I like the graphics, I like the drags, I like the drifts, I like the cars, I like the sounds of the cars, I like kitting them, laying vinyl etc etc. I hate the AI, I hate Underground mode, I hate the music, I hate the unrealistic environment (meaning small city, same tracks, no pigs) I hate EA. In any case, once you finish the game, the only reason you'd open up this game and play it again would most likely to either drag, drift or design. P.S any of you fags want to give me hassles over what I have said, you can eat my shit.

As the proud owner of a GeForceFX 5900 Ultra I'd like to say that no game on PC, PS2, XBox, or Game Cube can match this game for graphics when all the options are turned up all the way and the resolution is cranked to 1280x960. Its freaking awsome looking, great sound tracks too. If you looking for more realistic physics turn off the traction control in the options menu. I dunno what Big n harry is doing wrong but I beat AI cars off the line constantly and out run them on straight sections all the time without nos.

Wow...This is the most FUN NFS game ever. I know some ppl keep bitchin' about the roads being constantly wet, same old city, AI Cheating etc. They must be retarded or blind. Come on, the races are fast and exciting, the style points system is cool and best of all is the Drag racing which is so awesome. There aint any eye-candy driving around the forest in ur super luxury car moments but this game is fun and that's what that matters the most. The streets actually blur when u r driving fast and the nitrous oxide is cool (even though it aint like that in real life). Btw, all u bitchin' about this being the worst NFS game, you should have read the name - it says UNDERGROUND and so it is different from the rest of the NFS games. Graphics rock and this game has the best Sondtrack. I would still like a few more tracks though but overall a MUST HAVE NFS GAME. Finally, those who complain about the AI cheating -> Learn to drive.. :)

I'm for proformance not huge body kits and 20 inch spinners that do shiat, just f!ck up ur suspension in the long run. I played the game and getting close to beating it (pretty easy actually). EA games was very poor on there part, reputation, not enough proformance options like changing gear ratio's. All this game was to get the people that like what the car looks like not what it can do for you. I rented the game for Xbox, EA had some werid gay idea about bootlegs and not to add the LAN. Yes people boot leg, but not adding the option takes away from the game itself. This game will have no retail value, once you complete the 111 races or so, it over not much fun anymore.

The think about i have been surprised, it's NO REPLAYS! I mean, not that it's vital & absolutely needed, but the graphics look quite good, why can't i see my action in a 'Gran Turisom' replay way?? I'll never have answer to my question. In general i liked the game, and the overall score (82%) is right.

GARBAGE !! This game is trash. Like all E-A. Yea the graphics may be great but the programming is a JOKE. There's absolutly NO thought put into the tracks. Instead of making the tracks more difficult or your opponents cars better, instead it just cheats you every chance. If you play beyond 2nd tier upgrades you know I'm right. The game systematically crashes you on the 2nd to last and last lap EVERY RACE. For some reason when your opponents crash they're back on their wheels in 1 or 2 seconds (literally) HOWEVER if you even bump a wall you are going to flip, I PROMISE. Cut-scene of your car flipping and sliding obnoxiously excessive number of times lasted a minimum of 13 seconds (literally) and the longest we recorded was 17 SECONDS LONG. Yet somehow....the other cars pop back up and take right off again. If you're LUCKY enough not to flip then count on your car sliding backwards a good 10 to 15 seconds and don't bother trying to steer out of it. It's not possible. The point is there is no true "gaming" challenge to this "C.G.I. masterpiece" (?) but instead an array of mindless obstacles (i.e. trucks in both lanes of an intersection @ 160 mph)thrown into your path at every corner. Simply put....it's so stupid, it's frustrating. Don't waste your money.

They put a race with six laps.. for what? always decided in the last... and if you lose, you wasted your time... and wants to throw the joypad in your little brother... Doom don't create psychos, NFS Underground do.

Not a bad racer, the A.I cheats ie: full nos around a bend and the A.I car's still zoom off into the distance !!! what the..., yeah really realistict EA(not). The tracks are just the same old one expanded a bit or rev..oh dear EA. By the way yobo's I only have P3 533Bmhz geforce 2,and the games run's quite fast maybe it's the 133mhz bus and not the usaul 100mhz..so to PC makers how about cranking up the bottle neck bulls...t then all gamez would be balistic, my old Amiga 4000 blows rings around my PC in some situation and it runs at a whooping 33mhz !!! but no bottle neck problems!!! So NFSU is O.K if need to have a burnout or two. But when I drive to work my old suby kick's ass 120kph in the 80kph zone just gotta watch out for speed cams and cops..Mark Devellas(dude in into with the Z 350)u suck buddy, drive fast and die young you wanker chicken(in real cars)I want to race you on the STREET anywhere any time...got the ball's ??? My un-mod 1984 suby sports wagon will leave you for dust, don't expect me to drive nice either!!!

HELPme anyone!!! i've have a little problem here. After entering NFSU mode, i can't activate the motion blur feature (the button is kept dull in color). For anyone's info, my pc's spec is P4 2.4GHz, 256PC2700 RAM with 64MB Geforce4 440MX 8x on MSI m'board.

THE NEW NFS ROCKS I THINK IT IS THE BEST YET AND ALL YOU OTHER "CRITTICS" WHO HAVE NOTHING BETTER TO DO, ID LIKE TO SEE YOU DO BETTER.

help me please!! i have the 2.1Ghz geforce2 mx 200/400 1.24Gb Ram DDR, and mother board Abit kx7 please how do i turn on CROWDS!!! help meeeee! =(((((

Monkfishposted - May, 02 2004 - 20:17
lol @ TIGER's post... is a 'crittic' a cross between a critic and a critter? =P Anyhoo, for what it's worth, this NFS is prolly the worst of the series imho... it's great for about half a day then it gets really, really boring. Sure the gfx are fantastic, but then they feckin wannabe with the state of todays hardware. The real letdown is the gameplay; no damage, very limited race tracks, seemingly permanent catch-up, just yet another bounce-it-off-the-walls-till-you-win driving game. VERY poor show, I for one ain't gonna bother with NFS:U2. Mebbe I'll see if I still got a copy of NFS5: Porsche Loveliness kickin about on an old HD...... =)

p.s. Mario Bros karting on the snes was a much better game... at least u got to chuck shit at the other drivers..... ;-)

For everyone thats posted about the dulled out options in your graphics area of the game its due to your graphics card, EA have done the work (annoyingly) to turn of stuff that some older cards dont support like the GF4 440MX 64mb-128mb. And as For the AI cheating yes there is a problem with the AI being unrealistic, raced a lancer Evo Vs a Nissan Skyline fully kitted out and the Evo kicked my arse, they only seem to let you get within 2 seconds after them getting in front and they match your speed even with a NOS *U* upgrade.

Oh and another point i have a Geforce 4 5600XT 256mb P4 3.02ghz *MT* and 1Gig+ RAM and i can only run it in 800x600 or the games frame rate realy lags any suggestions? (note tryed turn most of the graphics options off this seems to help but at the expense of the game looking pants)i get on average 30FPS but it jumps from 20-40 all the time realy annoying when trying a corner at 120mph.........

Rabbitposted - May, 11 2004 - 17:58

I like the game minus the catch up mode. What is the purpose of racing hard just to loose at the end? By the way you can not turn on catch up mode in underground mode. If anyone knows how let me know

this is for all of youz who think your all that and like to talk shit about games.... bla bla bla that is all you can do when you probably dont even know completely how they made a computer game that you play infront of your nerdy little computers. I would really love to see you come up with a game and get it rated with the competition out there. hmm....guess you cant make a game then ..... too bad so then stop talking shit and stfu

I have something to say , how in NFS porsche , the cars from '98 , '00 had 320 km/h or more with no upgrades , no performance , and in NFSU 2 or 1 if you buy all the performance for a car you only get upto 340 hm/h or 340/km , why don`t you get a fast car like a GT3 , GT2 , Moby Dick in the underground and do performance for that car so you can race with 400-450 or much much more , in porsche i`ve made my own car ( 540km/h ) realy , i don`t lie . With this car i can fell that i`m racing with high speed , in NFSU 2 or 1 just a simple car from the begining and i finish the game that car gove`s only with 100 - 150 Km more then the first races . O , and when you will put on the market another NFSU try to make to see from the inside of the car so we can see when we push the NOS or something else , is more fun . Oh and who want to have my car for NFS porche e-mail me at [email protected] and i will reply to you with her
