Mercedes Benz World Racing|
(hx) 10:16 AM CET - Dec,13 2003
Mercedes Benz World Racing is a car racing game developed by German developers Synetic (BreakNeck, N.I.C.E 2, Mercedes Benz Truck Racing makers). You maybe noticed there are some Xbox reviews of the same game, but it was originally designed for the PC and was then ported down to other systems. The game features the largest selection of Mercdes-Benz cars, seven maps with 120 different routes traced along them (Alps, Japan, Mexico, Nevada...and also the Hockenheim Circuit), over 110 original cars from A to S-Class (though when you start unlocking cars and they include the identical-looking). Each car in the game will feature its own realistic cockpit or interior, real-time shadows, and adjustable driving physics that goes from arcade to simulation. Practically every parameter of your races can be altered or adjusted to suit your needs. For example, if you find yourself coming in 6th too often you can reduce the AI of your opponents to make yourself more competitive.
Mercedes-Benz World Racing offers training missions, race and championship
modes and also mission based play. The Mission mode is similar to Championship,
except you don't have a choice about which automobile to use. You start off as a
test driver for Mercedes company with the goal of becoming the to car tester in
the world. To achieve this goal you have to compete in championships with other
test drivers with the aim of winning. You also have the option of taking a "Free
Ride" on any of the game's locales and taking in the scenery at your own pace.
I’ve spent at least fifity percent of my game-time in this mode and it's as much fun as the
racing portion of the game.
Sadly, Mercedes-Benz World Racing contains some awful flaws. For example, you can drive through trees and crowds of people as if they are ghosts, and the damage model is pretty unrealistic too. It's quite surprising that your own car takes only a little damage from a 200km/h crash! It's almost impossible to destroy your car :) Also the game menu is pretty confusing, it's really frustrating when it takes you five minutes just to figure out how to start the next race. The last my complaint is that the game has no LAN/Internet multiplayer. Mercedes-Benz World Racing offers only split-screen race on one computer.
Despite the flaws, Mercedes Benz World Racing is a well-designed and fun game overall. It is definitely worth trying especially if you have ever dreamed of cruising the world's most beautiful roads in an E-class luxury car. Try this playable demo
Minimum: 800 MHz Intel Pentium III or 800 MHz AMD Athlon or 1.2 GHz Intel Celeron or 1.2 GHz AMD Duron processor, 256 MB RAM, 8x CD/DVD drive, 1.55 GB free HDD space, 32 MB AGP 3D graphics card with DirectX 8.1-compatible drivers ("GeForce 2 GTS" / "Radeon 8500" or better), Sound card with DirectX 8.1-compatible drivers, Keyboard
Recommended: 1.6 GHz Intel Pentium IV or AMD Athlon XP processor, 256(+) MB RAM, 16x CD/DVD drive, 1.55 GB free HDD space, 64(+) MB graphics card with DirectX 8.1-compatible drivers ("GeForce 4 Ti" / "Radeon 9500" or better), DirectX 8.1-compatible sound card with surround sound, Gamepad or steering wheel (USB or joystick port), Keyboard
snd: 3/5 - mediocre, engine noises are realistic, music fits the game's atmosphere perfectly
gfx: 4/5 -
pretty good, reflections on the cars' surfaces are incredible, unrealistic damage model, weird collision detection
playability: 3/5 -
fairly enjoyable, classic Mercedes-Benz models, adjustable driving physics, many of the tracks are extremely challenging, support for joystick, steering wheel or gamepad, confusing menu, no multiplayer (split-screen only), occasional slow-down/frame-rate issues (patch out)

|68%? You underrated it, I think. With FF wheel, it's a very very cool game.|
|hx||posted - Dec, 13 2003 - 13:24|
|I didn't say it's bad game :) But the flaws keep it from attaining a better score..like 78%|
|ManjuC||posted - Dec, 13 2003 - 16:51|
|Yeah I totally agree. 68% is not enough. Yes you can drive through trees and people, and not much damage. but the car simulation is something the very best I've seen in a game. I get great framerates on my middle tier machine too. I dont understand how NFS underground gets a high score and this doesnt.|

|Played the PC demo. Can't wait for the full version! Love just driving around. I play a bunch of race games and think the tracks and physics in this game are well done for a fun experience. Haven't been able to see that far down the road since Viper Racing (still one of my all time favs).|
|KHysiek||posted - Dec, 14 2003 - 01:17|
|Yeah, this game is underrated. Very nice graphics, interesting tracks with many details, gives much fun :)|
|vice||posted - Dec, 14 2003 - 19:17|
|You're right manjuc. The simulation and the graphics beats everything on PC, even NFS Porsche. Love the horizon too :)|
|Henrico||posted - Dec, 14 2003 - 21:36|
|Hitting trees is just annoying, why would you want to do it anyway?? Try playing Motocross Madness 2 to see what I mean.
Dont know if it beats NFS porsche but it definitely beats NFS Underground which is commercial pap.
Roll on World Racing 2!!|
|Fearlezz||posted - Dec, 15 2003 - 00:12|
|i'll take driving trough trees over closed tracks any time!|
|AKRY||posted - Dec, 15 2003 - 01:52|
|Even with lack of Online Multiplayer, the overall experience of the game is very nice....Besides, hitting the trees and running over crowds are not the priority of the game any way. Though it sure takes somre realism away..... Still, with minor flaws, I think the game still deserves 80%. Especially after looking at many of the late, PC racing games. MBWR is much well made than mere-console ports such as Ford Racing 2.|

|Vary fun Game, physics blow away anything nfs ever came out with,I only have the demo. Anyone know were i can get a PC copy sent to the united states?|
|Lorenzo||posted - Dec, 15 2003 - 10:50|
|Not perfect but the best feeling i've ever felt with a driving simulator. If you dont stay stucked on a first impression, you will realise you can actually feel the physics of the cars, the maps are incredible, you can track racing, offroading and road/street driving. When the multiplayer feature will be released (if good), i can say it will be the best driving sim i know.
Buy it !!|

|68% hm you are blind?
this is the best race game i ll ever played
|Cannabist||posted - Dec, 15 2003 - 15:55|
|I cant believe some of you call this a "simulator". It's very arcadey game. For REAL sim racing try Live for Speed, www.liveforspeed.net , which is in no way related to NFS. LFS is the best cargame ever till now on the pc.|
|Klaw||posted - Dec, 17 2003 - 17:00|
|Definitely, the worst junk I ever tried to play concerning to race simulation. 68% is about fair enough!!|
|Box||posted - Dec, 20 2003 - 03:42|
|This game got an 68% only, wow after I play the demo I think it deserves between 80%-90% but I have 2 problems..
1) Steering wheel animation is missing in demo
2) Game is not available in North America (for pc)
|ManjuC||posted - Dec, 21 2003 - 05:49|
|The steering wheel animation plays on faster graphics cards. I have a Gforce4 Ti4200, and the animation is there. Tried it on a Gforce2 Mx and a Gforce Go card and the animation is not there.|
|StillMan||posted - Dec, 27 2003 - 15:28|
|Personally, I havent test this game, but I think it would be a great game. However, I really like NFS Underground. If you like Fast & Furious movie, then you'll like NFS Underground. And for Live For Speed, never heard of. Guess I'll take a close look at it.

|IS THIS A RACING GAME? I THOUGHT IT WAS A DRIVING SIMULATION USED TO TRAIN NEW DRIVERS?. |
|posted - Jan, 13 2004 - 18:41|
|Using non-racing cars in a racing game. well how about we include a scooter and a three wheeled car in the game too. THIS GAME SHOULD NOT BE CONSIDERED A RACING GAME. ITS MORE LIKE A DRIVING SIMULATOR. why the fuck would i race in a SUV. SUV ARE THE MOST PATHETIC VECHICLE ON THE MARKET AND A INSULT TO MOTOR VECHICLAR DRIVERS. THEY ARE THE MOST NON-EFFICENT VECHICLES IN TERMS OF GAS, PLUS THE MANUFACTORS GET TAX BRAKES FOR MAKING THE CRAPPY VERSION CARS? WHERE IS THE LOGIC IN THAT? I PRODUCE SOMETHING WORSE THAN THE AVERAGE CAR SO I GET A TAX BREAK? IDIOT GOVERNMENT OFFICALS. SUV'S ARE NOT EVEN AS SAFE TO DRIVE THEY CAN'T MANUVER WELL AND FREQUENTY ROLL OVER. SO FUCK YOU FOR PUTTING SUV'S IN YOUR GAME BITCH. DON'T INSULT US CAR LOVERS WITH YOUR CRAPPY POO SMELLING PRODUCT. |
|john weston||posted - Mar, 12 2004 - 18:23|
|This is the most realistic simulation of fast driving available- the simulation physics and graphics are the best I've seen and I use all the current pc simulations.If only it had more real tracks( although it has the best depiction of Hockenheim I've seen). Greatly underated. 90%|
|posted - Mar, 22 2004 - 14:03|
|The game rocks. I dont mind going through trees. Hey, atleast you get to drive to them in the first place - they are outside the tracks! You got a huge Map to drive on - the resources needed to make all the things interactive would be too big to handle for most systems. I think they did the right thing.|
|Vincent Peeters||posted - May, 19 2004 - 23:21|
|This game rocks, for me it's like a dream cuz i'm a real auto-freak. I would buy the game only for the sweet sound of the accelerating mercedes engine.|
|Eddie Mann||posted - Jul, 16 2004 - 03:17|
|World Racing has more cars than an american showroom,a stunning game engine,and car physics only the pc delivers.Races are truly epic featuring beutiful scenery and lasting 10 minutes plus.NFS Underground is for people with short memory spans and need quick fixes.World Racing demands devotion,and patients,with is rewarded with over 100 cars,ok so there all mercedes but thats why you want it,However,if you only have 5 minutes to kill this game aimt for you,some of the laps go on forever meaning you could get bored.Later missions are harder than a rabid doorman,im still playing it,and it looks better everyday.buy it or suffer NFS undergroumd instead. |

i would give this game a "B", the only thing i don't like abt this game is the music, so weird, how abt some nice music from any of nfs series
about the physic dyamics, still no games beat F355 challenge or live for speed, but who cares
p.s. anyone knows how to get the SLR mclaren not by cheating?|
