Restaurant Empire
(hx) 07:00 AM CEST - Jul,30 2003

Restaurant Empire is realistic restaurant simulation developed by Trevor Chan and his team at Enlight Software (Capitalism II). Basically the principle idea for this game is to start rock bottom on the food chain in the restaurant world. You get a chance to use your Uncle's old establishment to try and make a go of it yourself.

Restaurant Empire features two gameplay modes: a sandbox mode and an 18-scenario campaign. The campaign mode let you follow the adventures of a young chef, Armand LeBoeuf, who has just graduated from cooking school. There's 18 chapters each with their own goals you must complete - for instance, making $50,000 in six months. The campaign mode cutscenes are played out to allow you to make choices in the dialogue, for example you can ask questions to get hints to help you in the game The Sandbox mode just lets you build your restaurant from scratch, adding a lot more freedom to do whatever you want, as long as the cash is sufficient. You can select from select from 3 types of cuisine (Italian, French, or American) and there is no limit to the number of restaurants that you can own at one time, as long as you have the cash to set up and sustain the operations.

Restaurant Empire features 3 World-famous cities to build your business in - Paris, Rome, and LA, over 180 recipes - they are tied to at least one of the three cuisines and are placed into one of five categories: breakfast, appetizer, soup, main course, and dessert; ability (or rather a must) to hire the staff, including chefs, waiters, and captains, all your staff have two settings- Morale and Mind. There's also a large library of graphics and objects - over 200 objects and decorations too choose from.

It may look deceptively easy to run a restaurant but in fact it is not. While it is very easy for you to get started with the game, especially with the game's interactive tutorials, the truth is that, just like the real life, making a restaurant profitable can be a daunting task. Customers always complain. They may complain about the food, the service the chairs or even the washroom. You manage everything - from hiring wait staff and preparing meals to modifying the font on menus. You can also enter competitions and if you win your chef will win money, new recipes and get a star next to that recipe on the menu.

If you are a fan of Trevor Chan's earlier work, particularly Capitalism II, Restaurant Empire won't disappoint you, the game features almost everything you'd possibly want. Try this playable demo.

System Requirements:
Intel Pentium III 500MHz (1GHz recommended), 128MB RAM (256MB recommended), GeForce, ATI Radeon, or 3D cards of the same grade, CD-ROM/DVD-ROM 4x Speed, 700MB HDD space.

snd: 2/5 - eating noises are emulated surprisingly well, boring music
gfx: 3/5 - acceptable 3D graphics, with interiors of the restaurant and objects, such as tables and paintings, you can scroll, zoom, and rotate, more functional than inspired, stiff animations
playability: 3/5 - only for die-hard business simulation fans, excellent sandbox mode, 3 types of cuisine (Italian, French, or American) + 180 recipes, solid +20 hours of game time (campaign), no multiplayer
genre: restaurant sim
release: April 2003
developer: Enlight Software
the game is similar to: Pizza Connection 2
publisher: homepage
Overall: 55%

I think it ain't that bad... nothing new from any other game of the same category, but nothing less too.

The only thing im wondering about is how the customers determine what tastes good and what tastes bad. I mean they are not real people. So how is the AI suppose to determine what tastes good and bad. It sounds like a hard thing to program. Unless they did a biological study of the tongue and how taste is processed in the human body i don't see the AI customers being realistic in any regard when it comes to then determining what taste good and what taste bad. How is the "simulation" suppose to do that?. It sounds like this game is similar to the "SIMS" games except that a lot of the customer attributes will be related to food and art and the restaurant atmosphere. But it could be a fun game still. i would try the demo.

I don't understand your sentence "This game is called "Resturant Empire" so use to the cut because it will be base on all kinds of foods and taste to win in most case in game like this." it makes no sense to me. Maybe you typed the wrong words like i sometimes do? Yes i know that games have limits because they can't simulate or even include everything that exists in real life. Thats pretty obvious. I was just wondering about how the taste buds on the customers would be processed what kind of system or scheme is being used to do that. But i find that some games leave out key realistic elements. And if that happens then i think that game is crap. and know i must practice go back to writing code.

I just wanted to enter a decent and readable comment on this game. It is very enjoyable and very addicting. The graphics are decent and it is a lot of fun attempting to stay above water (as in have enough money). I will say one thing though..I will never be at this website again. The language is horrid and very few of the reviews or comments have any intelligent point. This is simply a place for badly behaved children and immature adults to continue thier behavior. What a shame when this could be a decent and useful website.

well,i think it's a great strategy sim games,i never found a real life strategy simulation games that have RPG gameplay type in it.well i know the RPG is so linear but that is a fresh idea that never been found on any sim game. the micro management is so detailed, i like it because i'm a hardcore of sim games.try it.
